As AP reports, it appears Syrian airstrikes are on their way.. but there's a mind-blowing twist in US foreign policy: "In an effort to avoid unintentionally strengthening the Syrian government, the White House could seek to balance strikes against the Islamic State with attacks on Assad regime targets." In the words of the Guinness commercial, Brilliant.
Facepalm.......

Every day brings more jaw-dropping stupidity - or what is seemingly stupid to most people who may not be aware that all this world disruption may very well be baked into the cake.

Nice options we got there. If I had my choice of the two options, I'd go with the retards as maybe they could be distracted with a burger or a golf game or something. The sociopaths, they're more focused and "in it to win it".
In any event, both classes are a blight on humanity (and of course by "retard" I'm not talking about your garden-variety retard you went to school with, I mean the political class retards that are complete dopes but yet make decisions that affect millions). The sooner the sheep wake up and realize they've been taken for a long ride, the better.
They'll remain sheep, by and large, until the center can no longer hold, and when shit spins out of control - which it seems destined to do at some point in the not-so-distant future - it'll be too late. The jig's up, as they say.

I think this is really the truth. There are people whose positions or circumstances allow their actions to exert an outsized influence on eventual outcomes, but even they can't really be said to be in control. Just like anyone else, they'll both act and react; be incentivized to move in certain directions and produce incentives for others. People are shaped into their roles by their circumstances. I've read you dismissing ethics in the past I think, and I'm not quite as much of a cynic as you in that regard -- I really do think virtue can overcome the world, albeit at a cost -- but it's hard for even the common man to embrace, much less the wealthy elite, who have so very much to lose in the bargain. |

Excellent post as always.
To clarify, my "dismissing of ethics" comes from my specialized role. As an analyst I find filling my mind with cultural beliefs, ethics and emotions warps the analysis. I turn in an analysis free of these things, and the decision makers make the decisions (which is where ethics come into play). Although it's been my observation that the "decision makers" aren't actually in charge of anything, they make the decision which is forced upon them by the mechanics of the corporation -- which is always to maximize profit.
Only once in my career did management not take my analysis and pick the scenario they felt would maximize profit, it was Samsung!! They took the analysis and made the decision that was best for the Korean people, while turning their back on potential short-term profit. I was floored by this, thus I do still have some hope for humanity!
In my personal life I do include ethics, since I am both the analyst and decision maker. But hell, I'm in charge of almost nothing! |
