Who's excited for that extra day off!? I totally forgot about until my wife reminded me a few days ago. |

Yes, but the government has ordered it listed on calendars as a "red day" holiday which makes it very difficult for employers to force people to work especially when it's been put together with Chuseok.
Wednesday is being recognized as a Labor Day holiday. It is different from May Day which is not an official "red day" holiday, but is observed by some in Korea as a holiday for many unionized labor groups.
Many foreigners mistook the Chuseok holiday as being on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It actually runs from Sunday to Tuesday with Wednesday being Labor Day. |

It would be nice to think private academies would go along with the spirit of the law but if they choose not to, not much their teachers can do about it.
I do hope most can get it off. Its a choice time of year for an extended break. |

We will probably follow the new law and give our employees the extra day off. It give me an extra day to relax as well. Cheers |

Essentially all of the "red" days are optional for small business though. If your contract says you have all national holidays, then legally, I would think, Wednesday will be a day off for you. My hagwon is saying that I will have the day off. Hagwoners may have to make a stand for the extra day though. Just like Aug. 15 and Hangeul Day. |

If the boss doesn't give the workers the day off, and it being Chuseok and all, it's going to seriously affect morale among the employees. And it will send a clear message about what kind of person the boss is. |

Getting 5 days off (including the weekend) for Chuseok. The wife just booked a trip to Beijing for that time. We'll likely stay local in Shanghai for my 7 days off (weekend included again) for Mid Autumn Festival a month later. |

I think I'm going to stay in Jeju. It's still beach season and will be for a while yet. |
