The problem with posts like the op's and some recent ones that aimed at criticizing Korea, either seriously or humorously, is that they pale in comparison with the posts on klownisms: life in Klown.
They think they're shooting from the hip, and they may be, but compared to Klown posts, they're using a pea shooter while he sprays his targets with an HK MP5N (9mm) and if any dare to show life after that he puts them down with a Remington 870 Tactical Shot Gun. Sometimes, just for fun, he hits them with an FN Mk 13 grenade launcher.
So up your game or stick to asking about what to do this weekend in whatever BFE-dong you happen to find yourself in. |

Personally, I think the OP is having a big laugh at all of us right now. It seemed so over the top and it smelled of an attempt to elicit some hysterical apologist rantings from someone like me.

Yeah, klownisms and his sociopathic reaction to the world around him and inability to accept responsibility for his lot in life does vaguely reek of mass shooter-type manifestos. |

And yet his posts contain factual support that make them more just the laments of a loser, and thus cannot be written off so easily. |

Let's be honest. Korea certainly isn't the most enjoyable place, and Korean people can be difficult to deal with. However, saying it is the worst place in the world is a wee bit dramatic, and just makes me think some people need to grow a pair. |
Agreed, there are things to complain about here. Summer heat, stagnant wages, and the like. But, there are worst things and places than Korea. Korea isn't so bad once you take some of these complaints out of the equation. It's fairly modern and most folks nowadays are friendly enough (much more than even a few years ago). |

I'm sure plenty of sociopaths have offered links and facts in their manifesto. It's the conclusions they draw from those facts that make them sociopaths and losers. What do you think Klebold & Harris, Kaczyinski, Cho, Breivik, and Lanza thought the world was flat and filled with unicorns and the sky was purple? No, they saw the same facts as everyone else, but their interpretation of those facts was wildly delusional, irrational, anger filled, and psychologically disturbed.
One person gets shafted by bureaucracy and blames it on bureaucracy or themselves for not reading things carefully and vows to fix it next time by reading codes more carefully or getting a lawyer. Another person thinks its all (insert ethnic group here)'s fault and decides that the only way to deal with it is to start a hate site and build a manifesto, leading to some psychotic act of destruction and or violence.
Seriously, if you showed that site to people back home, most would conclude that the author needs serious therapy and has some bad mental health issues. |

Back with the false analogies. And you were doing so well, Herr Goebbels.
I think the reverse of your assertion is true; klown posts would elicit interest and humor while someone reading your posts would have to wonder what psychological problems prompted such ideas.
E.g., what mental aberrations would move someone to defend the captain of the Sewol? |

I don't even worry about stagnant wages. When I read articles like this one http://edition.cnn.com/2014/05/02/business/greek-voices-the-financial-crisis-is-not-over-for-us/ and click on each individual's anecdote, I feel really lucky to be able to have a job and especially to be able to have a good savings rate. A lot of times when I walk home, some Pakistani guys who live across the street are also walking home and we always talk about life, politics, and so on. We've each commented many times on how good life is and how lucky we are to be here doing our thing here in Korea.
These are good times, people. I know it's easy to let some random asshole(s) at least temporarily make you focus on the 10% of the glass that's empty instead of the 90% that is full. Enjoy your pay, your hobbies, your significant others, etc. And try to save a lot of money, which is easy on our salaries. There will be worse times. These are good times, very good times for lucky people like us. Enjoy them and make the best of them. |

I'm ethnically Korea and was born here, but I'd have to say I understand where his anger comes from:
1. Korea suffers from collective amnesia (they have no clue that in 1940s and 50s NO ONE was rich...they were all eating rice with worms in it); (grand)parents have gone through loops to avoid telling their children the truth. In the US people value "know your roots"; in Korea, people value liars who makeup their roots (and some who can actually prove them).
|
I don't know about this. My parents and my grandparents love to remind me how dirt poor they were growing up and how easy I have it compared to them. |
Understood, but I'm not really talking about isolated cases (my own being an example as well). However, if you talk to many of the younger generations today, they have no clue of the severity of poverty that South Korea just recently overcame. I mean, only like 50 years ago, the country barely had paved streets (nationally) let alone one or two skyscrapers. |

Never! We sir, who are complainers by our very nature, will forever blame everyone else around us for our troubles sir! This - here, where you participate; is Dave's sir.
And by ZEUS, Thou shalt not ever be happy about the Klownisms and may the diatribes proliferate until the fat lady sings! |

I've often wondered if these guys are puzzled as to why we (westerners) are here? I think if they had a chance to live in our home countries, they wouldn't be in Korea. |

Yeah, you're right. The website with a bunch of people doing a human centipede and coming up with derogatory terms for ethnicities, while ranting about a foreign country they voluntarily choose to work in that pays them a livable wage along with housing for having little more than a bachelor's degree would be well received. Someone posting and explaining context for their rants, explanations for why things are, and denunciations of racism would be looked at as a nut.
Seriously, back home if your boss asked for a website for some info would you really even entertain klownisms as an option as opposed to say, Ask A Korean? If you showed up for your Marketing Team: Korea with that site and his talking points, do you really expect to be taken seriously?
I think the general consensus would be at the least "That guy needs to go home" and probably "Thank goodness they don't allow guns over there because he sounds like he's on the verge of climbing the bell tower". |

You raise more questions than you answer. For example, why would someone's boss ask for information about Korea? What exactly do they wish to know and for what purpose?
Are they interested in the unvarnished truth that Klown comments on or do they want the whitewashed version? If they were marketing some product, klown might help them understand that their advertising should, rather be innovative, creative or humorous, follow the pattern Koreans expect and respond to.
As for the consensus, I think it would be ROFLMAO.

If that guy is so smart, why hasn't some executive found his blog and promptly hired him to take over the Korea department?
You're deluded if you don't think that the average reaction back home would be one of guffaws. Most people would call him a racist and a loser. They'd look at the blog and say "Seriously, this is what you spend your evenings doing? Why doesn't he just leave?"
It would be as baffling to people as seeing some blog called "Plownisms: Life in Plown Land" and the person lived in Peru and was ranting about Peruvians. Most people would have zero emotional connection to the person and no frame of reference and would consider the person a sad little man who was also a possible sociopath.
Even bashers have stated that they find the guy a bit unhinged. He doesn't read like some sharp social commentator, he reads like the worst of youtube comments with an occasional nice line. But that one line or so doesn't make him a serious source. |

Well, Im going to put myself out on a limb here then and say in all honesty, I find his blog quite refreshing. Especially when you have to walk around inflating Koreans egos everyday, by lying when they ask why youre here, and the only real reason is money (its also a waste of money at this point to relocate).
There's a lot of truth in what he says, its also quite funny. Its also intended to be offensive and taking that as the basis for reading it, Im not offended by it.
I think you don't like it because he named and insulted you directly... |
