Interesting. Then why do you usually try to justify it when it involves other foreigners being banned from Korean bars?
In those cases, you almost always have some "justification" for the bans ("foreigners start trouble", "they don't speak the language", "they hit on all the girls", "they don't buy an expensive whiskey set", etc.)
...but why suddenly now there's no excuse for a ban? |

It's like in the zombie movies when you have to shoot your friend in the head, things must be contained, it is the only way. There is no other option, and no it's not fun.
People who don't have balls for it don't make it to leadership positions. You guys don't have the balls, but instead of admitting that, you argue the math, which only results in a double fail. |

From this additional data I can say the Korean's view is still logical. They are not able to determine visually specific African country of origin. But being a homogenous culture they are able to spot the black people, and ban them. Though they ban 99.9999% incorrectly, they still nail the 0.0001%. They miss the white Africans. Thus they offend, but don't get ebola, or at least they reduce the odds.
Their actions make sense. |
Maybe more than 0.0001% of people have HIV, so the "logical" thing to do is to stop all human contact now! It makes sense.
You'll ban 99.9999% incorrectly, but still nail the 0.0001%!

Doesn't make any sense at all.
|
Uhhh... that's exactly my point.
Was just using your "logic".
Sorry if that went over your head. An analyst, huh?

And then you go on to say that it comes from Africa, but how do we confine it?? Uhhh... |
Yup, it comes from Africa. Doesn't mean throwing in a random ban against black people at a random pub is "logical", as you argued.
But on a larger scale, the issue of bans and immigration could be discussed. Whether they are logical or not depends on a number of issues, not just basic math. |

You're the one constantly trumpeting your basic math skills.
And as for balls, what if you contract the virus? Are you balsy enough to accept your own policy prescription?
You seem to be becoming a Steelrails-like parody lately. That could be fun. He needs some company. |

I only have basic math skills. What I trumpet is that people here don't even appear to have those.
Their english is fine however. |

The virus doesn't come from "Africa". It comes from a small region in the West of that continent. The vast majority of "Africa" is unaffected. It's like saying all of Asia is a communist / confucianist dictatorship obsessed with nuclear brinkmanship just because North Korea is. The infected regions of Africa are no more representative of "Africa" than North Korea is of "Asia." But many Koreans can't get their heads around this. Korean Air has even suspended its flight to Kenya, a country that has exactly the same amount of Ebola cases as South Korea: zero.
And let's get rid of this notion that JR Pub is "foreigner owned". It is owned by Mr. Jung's (Seoul Pub) younger brother. He used to manage Seoul Pub before opening his own place, and went by the name "Junior" (as in "Jung Junior"). That's why the pub is called "JR's". It's short for 'Junior'. It is a Korean-owned establishment. The only customers who complained about the presence of Africans were Koreans. Korean staff members made the poster, and manned the doors to prevent Africans entering. This brouhaha has Korea written all over it.
Oh, and this. http://populargusts.blogspot.kr/2012/03/three-decades-of-black-face-in-korea.html |

You keep saying the same thing. It is still wrong.
Blindly banning all black people DOES decrease the probability of ebola. It may not be efficient or particularly elegant; it over-includes people banned, while under-including others. Yet all things considered, it does decrease the probability of ebola.
You have no better ideas, which makes the Korean's idea best by default. Plus, they are in charge. |

First, you failed to include the part where I ultimately blamed the owner. Second, you missed the part where I was talking about racism vs. a desire to avoid miscommunication. This is very similar to the prostitution thread where etiquette and customs play a huge role. Last, not all of those were my reasons.
The difference here is that there is no issue of culture and communication. It is one purely of an ignorant response to a public health panic. |

Except for the part where is does decrease the probability of catching some ebola, which ruins your whole theory.

Your posts are becoming increasingly similar to the talking points of nationalistic Americans. |

The ebola map says you're a fool.

Koreans don't eat bush meat, maybe after this outbreak neither should Africans don't you think, since it's been known for a long time? Ebola is expensive and requires expertise to deal with and nobody wants it in their country. Frankly Korea is not an immigration country anyway. During the Hantavirus outbreak in New Mexico we were trapping for deer mice and other small mammals for specimens. Many of the animals are good to eat, but nobody ate them even though the method of transmission of Hantavirus was already known and they could have been eaten. New Guinea natives should not eat human nervous system tissue, and it probably would be better if Americans didn't eat hot dog meat at least according to experts on prions who publish articles in peer reviewed journals. People decide. |
