I made that sort of thing really important. It's sad that 5 full days of vacation in summer and 5 in winter is the exception and not the norm. The schools that do that can use it as a selling point. 'Hey, we're average'.

I was ready to re-sign a contract at a place I hated some years ago. Why? They paid on time. I had listened to too many people telling me horror stories and saying this place and that do not pay on time. I figured I had a good thing even though I was overpressured, overworked and underpaid.

It took some thought and some guts, but I do not let myself be victimized. If I am paid late, I don't show up for work. I am paid a month and 10 days after I do the work. What else do I hold over on the school? If someone shows up for work after not being paid, they basically folded their last trump card.

Conditions here can improve if people thought about the result of their actions more. That private that offers you 18,000 an hour? If you accept it, you drive down wages. More money in academy owner and/or recruiter's pocket. Screw that.
