| Man, why are so many people giving this guy shit? So what if he's organizing a get together on Chuseok? Did everybody suddenly become Puritans? Even those that might think it's not a good time, ok, that's cool, but why all the hate? Obviously, some posters weren't doing that exactly so I'm just addressing the assholes only. |

Hey, before that it's all good. Booze it up. But if you're going to call people who choose to spend time with their relatives or take their kids to see grandma "stupid", you should be able to take it as well.

That will be anywhere from 25-50 years. I'd say by 25 years a great reduction, and by 50-75 years only the really traditional families will keep it going. After that it will be a virtually dead tradition, with only the most ultra-conservatives making trips to their grandfather's hometown. |

I agree.
A lot of the practices belong to another age when Korea was less industrialized and lived within close proximity to one another.
It is not a bad thing, I know plenty of British traditions that have fallen by the wayside over the centuries and the sky didn't fall in or anything. |

It's not that, it's just...don't you love your family? Or at least respect the desire for your children and grandparents to spend some time together on the holidays?
(He made a good point about "alternate Chuseok" being a viable option to avoid hassle and get in a vacation)
I guess I'm saying, why can't you turn the time into something fun? Why all the negativity? Aren't you happy to see your relatives? |

I think a lot of the Korea lifers are lifers because they don't care that much about seeing their relatives. I'm not saying a majority, let alone all, but a sizable number. |

Far too many idiots doing idiotic things. Don't get me wrong, I like to have a fair bit of drunken fun, but dragging sofas and other assorted furniture from the nearby pensions to the beach and lighting them on fire exceeds that limit by quite a bit. |

Fun is always extreme in Korea.
When you live under such a pent-up stress-filled miserable society as this, then l"letting off steam" is more an exercise in emergency therapy.
You only have to listen to the 20 decibel laughter and screaming from all the middle-schoolers at 7pm to know that. |
