incredibly dim of you to put in your notice without the financial means to support yourself |
Could be worse...I could have allowed shown others that NOT standing up for youself in Korea is the norm, which perpetuates the cycle of crap that teachers endure here.
But, thank you for your comment AND support for "new faces". |

This is true.
However, because there have not been enough people like you, it has become ineffective to take a stand.
Because the market is swamped with jobless westerners, by refusing a job you will simply do yourself out of an opportunity. You can be replaced in an instant with someone who won't mind.
In the old days you could threaten to walk and they would do whatever you ask. Its different now. Quit a job and they just pick up the next resume from the pile of 100 applicants. You, however, face having a nightmare performance of visa paperwork and visits to immigration. You may even have to wait around for months getting everything together again,-while frittering away all your savings- and then find a new job only to realise they are even worse conditions than the one you left.
This is why I say, korea is too much hassle for too much risk now for a newbie E2. |

It's not expensive at all to hire cleaning ppl in Korea. They normally do an excellent job. I moved into my current apt on the same day the previous resident moved out. When I had told my landlord that I wanted to move in on the same day because I didn't want to spend another night at a local motel. He said, No problem, and made his people clean the place and install new wallpaper. I moved in around 6 pm, and they did a fantastic job!
I don't like many things in Korea, but I have great respect for cleaning people here who happen to be mostly ladies. They take their job very seriously. Whenever I go to the restroom at my school or at my gym, I am amazed how immaculately clean the toilets or urinals are! |

True that. Janitors are vastly underappreciated.
Sorry to hear that things ended up badly. I pulled a runner in 2012, but now I'm in my 26th month at my current hagwon and love it here. I don't regret pulling the runner, and I hope you end up with the same golden karma. I'm rooting for you. |
