Southern Ireland left in 1921, and most Brits wish Northern Ireland would leave too. If fact for decades it was the Labour Party's official policy to support a united Ireland outside the UK. Do you think that if Scotland voted to leave they'd not allow it. Really? Britain isn't Russia, and Cameron isn't Putin.

Ireland was a problem back then, but dont be decieved. England had its whole fist up Ireland and Independance meant as much as it means for many 'states' in the world today...zombified economically, dominated in evey meaningful way.

Cameron isn't Putin? Cameron has a lot more resources (refined and potent) to rule his subjects than Putin. Think tickling feather vs blunt cudgel.

You can't prove me wrong. How are democraries different than the colonial empires from which it sprung and has its basis in ? Very small details, just more refined.

Ireland is very far from "dominated".
Initially of course the old structures remained in place. But it didn't take long for the ROI to assert its independence in a host of different ways. later membership of the EU allowed Ireland to grow its economy far away from dependence on London. The Celtic tiger.
Culturally Ireland is very aware of having been historically oppressed, this fact of their unfortunate past is hammered into them in school from the earliest age. Independence allowed a massive resurgence of irish gaelic culture- and language.
