I have to agree that nightlife in Itaewon and Seoul is horribly overrated. If you have friends in Korea and genuinely like the place, fine, but well, you can have far more fun with better beer, company and food elsewhere cheaper.

I think Korean night life is great because it cheap-ish and I get laid a lot. The other stuff like music variations, which club has the best(douchiest) clientele, best sound systmes, Djs, food, etc don't mean anything to me. If I did care about that stuff, I would think Seoul night life is crappy because the booze sucks, Koreans are fake scenesters and a bunch of other things.

I was there recently...

In the past, it used to be fun, in a sketchy, Koh San Road kind of way.

Now, I find it simply overrun with Koreans....quite the funbuster, when it used to be a place that allowed a breather from them.

Food still sucks (Geko's still refuses to make a proper plate of Nachos).
Three Alley's Pub has gone to shite, especially with Koreans tending bar.
Seoul Pub...yuck.

That is just to name a few.

All of the other places...as I said, overrun with Koreans. For me, there is no point in going there anymore, except to get a can of chew.
