|
|
I have heard conflicting reports about whether or not Hangul day is a red day or not. Last year it was, this year it isn't, then next year it will be again? What is the official ruling? I have to work that day and was just wondering if I had a good reason to bitch or not. |

Yes it is a red day.
2014 is the year in which it has been re-instated as a red day (it was and then it wasn't!...now it is again!).
You'll see it as a red day in 2014 calanders. Enjoy the day off work. |

You have a perfectly good reason to bitch.
It is a red day. Ask for overtime to work. |

If they make you work it, ask for extra pay.
If it's a hagwon, they will probably divide your pay by 30, leaving you with a solid 75,000 for not having a long weekend |

If you have to work, the pay is time and a half for the day. If you make 10,000₩ per hour, then it would be 15,000₩ per hour that day. |

Maybe your boss is confused? )Being generous here.)
Workers here are not entitled to paid days off for NHs but if you are forced to work then extra cash is due, as others have said.
Good luck. |

Can you show me the law on this? We were told the only three days we are required to get off are Labor Day, Chuseok, and New Years, and therefore those are the only days we would earn holiday pay for. |

I used to work for a terrible place that robbed you blind at every opportunity and they paid me extra for working NH - boss told me they had to. I will ask the person I am still in touch with.
This link

says it is up to a company if they give you the day off, and whether or not they pay you if you do have the day off. HOWEVER if NHs are USUALLY a day off for you and they make you work one you must get the extra cash.

My contract says national holidays are all off. Therefore, no work.
No funny business going on for me. I hate to imagine the mind of any chinsy boss trying to get you to work. |
