Exactly. At least Koreans have some honor, and decency toward others.
It's like how bums in the US take out their anger on everyone walking by, while bums in KR sit quietly with their heads bowed and allow you to give money if you feel like it. After all, their problems do not give them the right to take it out on innocent people.
When Koreans know they are done, they just exit with grace, not murder a room full of people. |
Do not go gentle into that good night. |

The apologist answers seem to illustrate what many Koreans think about English instructors: They are unwilling and/or unable to find meaningful employment back in their home countries, and so it would cause cognitive dissonance to admit the serious and fundamental problems all around them in Korea. To avoid the inconsistency that would result from fully recognizing/acknowledging the flaws, while choosing to voluntarily live and work in such a problematic environment, they fervently defend their adopted homeland from its every critic.
One could venture to guess that the less the prospects for meaningful employment in their home countries, the more fervent the apologist defends his adopted home and turns a blind eye to its flaws. |
What about apologists who specifically chose to come here and wanted to live in Korea?
And isn't the whole "unemployable back home and therefore miserable" line equally applicable to the bashers and their mental state?
I have never lived in Japan or France, but I do know that if I were to move there and were to go online and start thread after thread about how awful the place was and spend the majority of my time complaining about the place, it would clearly be time for me to leave and if I could not, that would be due to some defect of character on my part, not that country. |

It's applicable in both instances for folks that stand on either side of the fence. No doubt about it.
Where you are railing off to on the second part is partly understandable. I agree with some of it. Where people get off track on here is always using another place as a comparison to things in Korea. Let's be honest here, you are one of the worst offenders when it comes to that. Why you do that so often is beyond me.
Suggesting people that come to a place to live and work and have complaints are the root of the problem of said complaints though? Condescending much? |

Where are you from in the US and what experience do you have with 'bums' outside of kangnam, bro? |

First, the people who compare the most are the bashers. Their complaints are filled with comparisons to back home, but no one ever has issues with that. How often have people blamed Korea for not being like back home/the West/the rest of the world? How often have people said "Stop comparing Korea to other countries to them? NEVER. Obviously, its not comparisons that are "wrong", its simply having a different point of view and then some people look for an argument that tries to "defeat" that point that was made, unfortunately when using that argument they didn't bother to see if in turn it applied to them as well.

I see it as no different than people who walk into a club and complain about loud music and people drinking. Or someone who turns on HBO and complains about graphic violence and nudity. Or someone who buys GTA:V and complains about the moral content. No one forces them to deal with any of those, same with Korea. They are free to leave Korea, just like they are free to turn off HBO, or GTA:V, or to leave a club. The people in the club and the entire HBO Network and writers for Game of Thrones shouldn't change to make them happy. Their lives don't exist to make them happy and to follow their code. It is up to them to choose whether or not to accept what they have to offer. And if one complains about some TV show constantly but continue to watch it and refuse to turn off the TV, then that is a sign of character defect in them. |

Just goto any major US city (LA, NY) vs Seoul, obviously the US homeless tend toward aggressive prickish behavior, while the KR ones politely put a piece of paper on your lap on the subway and try to disturb you as little as possible. Just because you are poor doesn't mean you can't conduct yourself in an honorable way.
It illustrates very different ways of thinking about things. Frankly, it would be much better if all the losers in the USA who kill people (including cops) would just kill themselves. No guts for that though... |

That's complete horseshit. As another poster stated, your posts rely heavily on comparisons to the U.S. and it's usually YOU who starts the comparison ball rolling. Which you know because you then proceed to defend such comparisons.
And then you launch into comparisons to GTA:V and HBO.
It's the apologists such as yourself who rely on making comparisons to try and deflect criticism of Korea, criticism which is not always, but often enough is, valid. |

Typical response. Started out well enough and the spun into complete 'look over here instead' gibberish. |

Again, just answer the questions instead of beating around the bush and deflecting. |
