Anyone live in this new city? What do you think?
Close to both airports, and I don't care about nightlife or meeting other Westerners. But, just wondering how you like it? |

No replies yet so I'll give you some.
Girlfriend's mom lives there and seems like a nice area. Very well laid out, clean, etc. They just built a subway station on the airport line so that gives you quick access to Seoul (Hongdae in 30 min) and Incheon Airport.
In terms of things to do, there are a lot of restaurants and bars on the "strip" along the long stream that runs throughout the city. I think the stream is one of the best features and it's very long so you can ride your bike, run, etc.
Outside of that area, there doesn't seem like much to do, but I would take the chance to live there just because of how spaced out and peaceful it is. |

Thanks for the reply
Sounds good! I like the idea of getting in on somewhere as its developing and before iit's popular. Also, access to Seoul and Inceon and Gimpo in Under 40 minutes is nice. Might give it a go |

Yes, there is a subway station. But it’s in the middle of nowhere so you have to take a bus to get there and there aren't many different bus lines you could use. So it takes about 25-30 minutes just to get to the station. And that train goes around 5 times in an hour so you could end up waiting 10 minutes or so. The express train doesn’t stop there. 1 hour is still on the optimistic side to Hongdae.
The area is soulless and dull that you feel like in one of the ghost cities of China. I would rather live in a narrow-street, old neighborhood. At least there is some character and feel to it which these new cities completely lack.
But that is just my opinion. |

Damn, I just looked at the map, and the station is pretty far from the main area. Don't know why they would do that.
But you are wrong about the time to get to Hongdae. I take the Airport line regularly from Gyeyang which is only 2 stops away it takes about 20-25 minutes. Waiting time isn't that bad either. |

I meant from door to destination not the subway ride from station to station.
One benefit of working there would be the (school provided) housing. A newly built officetel or villa.

If you drive a car and want to go to Seoul you're pretty much stuck using the airport highway and the expensive tolls on it. The train station was supposed to rectify that but as said earlier the station is not near. |

Buy a cheap bike. You can leave it locked on the rack outside the station. Keep you fit at least.

I considered taking a job there as they offer higher salaries. Once I accounted in my time for getting there and back, it was not worth it.
If you like in Bucheon or Incheon and commute to Cheongna by public transport, it takes longer than it takes to get from said cities to Gangnam. It is similar to travel time to Bundang. |

I am guessing they built Chongna where they did, then looked for public transport options later. The airport line seemed practical and so they made a station there. Much easier than splicing into the track or building a whole new line just for one station.
If Chongna continues growing, the newer buildings could be much closer to the station than the current ones.

Cheongna may be another white elephant like all the "free economic zone" fads of the past decade. Monumental waste of money.
Last I heard on KBS was that Incheon's economy was shrinking, not growing. |
