I am talking about homeless Chinese-(Canadians) living in the Downtown Eastside, not aboriginals.

View from the cities
Asia and the Middle East was the most common place of birth for racialized immigrants living in poverty in all three cities, but the proportions varied widely:
Montreal – 47% of poor racialized immigrants were born in Asia and the Middle East
Toronto – 74%
Vancouver – 91%.

When you say homeless, I think some guy on the street begging for money, or booze, sleeping in the alley.
But, yes a lot of Chinese-Canadians are living in poverty. But I've never encountered an Asian bum in North America yet, they're pretty rare like the unicorn. Almost mythical. Although I do see old Chinese grannies search garbage cans for pop cans. But those grannies go back to some kind of physical house at night. |

So there are 10 homeless Chinese in the whole of the metro-Vancouver area? Not saying they don't exist, but you made it sound like there are tons of them. So much that it would be noticeable.
Still near mythical status if you ask me. Still have yet to encounter one in the Americas personally. It's either black, white, hispanic, or native.
Although I do encounter quite a few punk kids that are Asians that need a slap to the face. |

There is a disconnect between what you are claiming ("Vancouver is probably the only city in the western world where you can see so many homeless Chinese.") and the statistics you are providing.
The numbers that you sourced from the 2006 Census deal with poverty, NOT homelessness. These are two separate issues.
While there may indeed be many ethic Chinese living on the poverty line in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, they are under-represented in homeless statistics. The GREATER Vancouver Regional District undertook a comprehensive survey among the homeless in 2008. Only 3 % of the respondents were identified as ethnic Chinese.
Statistics aside, it should be clearly evident to anyone who has visited Vancouver that Caucasians and Aboriginals comprise the majority of the homelessness. |

Yes, The City of Vancouver initially attempted to evict the tenants. It later granted the society representing the tenants a 6 month reprieve in which to come up with a viable restoration plan. In actuality, the residents were not truly homeless, as they were back in their building in short order. Besides, the City had already lined up temporary accomodation for the residents, had the building demolition proceeded.
That said, using this story as proof that there is a substantial homelessness issue among ethnic Chinese in Vancouver is rather feeble. |

Not surprising, given the area in which the video was shot is in close proximity to Chinatown. |

Wondering if you saw it? I saw the whole thing, but no Chinese homeless people. Like to pinpoint them?
I saw maybe one possibly Chinese lady standing in some food handout place. But still not really indicative of being homeless. And another Asian looking man in a red shirt sitting at a table. But, wasn't sure if he was just some guy, an employee, or an actual homeless guy. So possibly 2 homeless Asians, in the whole documentary, but their actual status can be debated. And this 10 blocks of 'hell' surrounds Chinatown.
Not saying there aren't any, but they are hard to find in the new world. And you don't see 'many'. |

You need to watch the video at least three times before reaching any conclusion! There are many Chinese in the background. They don't want to be on TV as there is a stigma for being homeless in Asian communities, just like there's one for being mentally ill. |

I've been reviewing all 7 parts, using my CSI skills, and all I could dig up was at 2:11 in part 2, of a possibly Asian high-chance homeless dude. Guy in the white jacket. Not for sure, could be native or east Asian. It's like the Lockness monster, you're just not sure. But for sure he's not 100% in the head. |

The funny and ironic thing is a lot of poverty in Vancouver is caused by other Chinese. The rich Chinese (not ultra rich) who came to Canada sit in the middle class and have been driven into near poverty by the ultra rich Chinese coming in with their big wallets and little dicks, driving up the housing costs.
There were many Chinese that were happy when Canada suspended the investors visa. |
