Yes, I lknow..."post on the Thai forum". But I don't have time to wait for a password to register for that arena.
I also posted this in the Travel Forum but if anyone has any answers, I would be grateful. I think I'm going to leave this expeirence behind and see what the L.O.S. has to offer, since it is the hiring season (or upcoming).
Hey folks,
I know some of you out there have experience in this area, so I am going to ask.
I have received mixed reviews on these matters, despite what other websites say.
1. Does one need to purchase a ticket BEFORE obtaining a 60 day toursist visa (can it be one way)?
2. Has anyone been refused to board the plane with a one way ticket to Thailand (FROM Korea)? IF so, which airlines are ones to stay away from?
Thank you. |

There are times you may be turned away at your point of departure if you don't have a r/t ticket, especially when flying a national airline of the country you are travelling to; also, when you arrive at your destination, immigration may ask to see your return ticket. If you're not in possession of one, you may be asked to purchase one before you're allowed in the country.....or you may have to purchase one and leave immediately. I've been a victim of the first - I showed up in Manilla with a o/w and was led upstairs to buy a return ticket, then I was allowed to enter. I had a friend from Korea who travelled to the US with a o/w ticket (her parents lived in the US), she couldn't produce a return ticket and was asked to leave on the same plane she flew in on....of course, she was forced to pay an extortionate rate to get a seat on that bird. |

I can't speak on the immigration side of the matter, but in 2010 I was finally allowed to board with a one way ticket to Thailand from Incheon after signing a waiver saying the airline would not be liable if I was denied entry into Thailand. Maybe I was lucky, but once in Thailand I was never questioned about onward travel. |

No, you won't need a ticket. The Thai embassy doesn't care whether or not you can use the visa. They just don't want certain types to have the visa.

I have, and you most likely will too if you fly Korean Air or Asiana. I had to buy a return ticket to Thailand from Indonesia via Singapore Airlines when I was about to board a flight at Incheon Airport. It was literally the most insane thing I ever experienced in South Korea. Any other airlines you have to sign a waiver. |

If they make wristbands mandatory, Thailand will see a lot less of me. |

Just one more useless crazy thing that they came up with, along with many others recently. |

I was just in Thailand for 4 months. I arrived in Thailand with a double entry visa that I obtained while I was in America. A double entry visa allows you to stay for 60 days, and then you are allowed to go for an extension which is an additional 30 days. To get the extension you need to go to Thai immigration office. I went to the one in Bangkok. Once your 90 days are over you will need to do a visa run. I was in Bangkok, so I went to the Cambodian border and got another 60 days. Again, if I wanted to stay an additional 30 days I would need to go to immigration to get the extension. After my time was up I would have had to fly home, unless I wanted to work in Thailand. In that case I would have gotten a work visa from an English or government school. I decided to go home.
When I arrived in Thailand I didn't have a onward plane ticket. I had a double entry visa so I didn't need one. When I went to extend my visa I wasn't asked for an outbound flight. I didn't need one.
I think you want a double entry visa? Are you an American? Get that visa from the New York consulate. Also, do it before you plan to fly to Thailand. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET THE 60 DAYS WHEN YOU ARE IN THAILAND. YOU WILL BE DENIED! Be careful, because visa rules have become very strict. Do not overstay, because you will be thrown in jail.
Good luck. |
