I know two people who worked there as well as a manager.
The good: Certain amount of prestige, certainly helped the two people I know get uni jobs, potential to do your DELTA (paid by BC), seemed to be lots of OT available
The bad: Poor management, high workload, no real weekend social life
They work you hard there, but if you wanted to move around the globe, BC is a good way to do it. And if they above salary is right, you would be getting about 3 million a month inc the housing allowance. But Both my friends moved on after finishing their contract and there seems to be a lot of staff turnover.
Not sure what centre they were at though |

| There's a lot of opportunity for crossing over into other departments as well if you're ambitious. I know of people who have gone on to work as e.learning consultants, teacher training consultants, website managers. project managers, exams managers, materials designers and in one case a consul. |

I used to work for the seoul office and we had almost a 75% staff turnover. It's not the job that it once was. The admin workload is very high and you will spend around 60 hours a week in the office. You will teach 24 hours a week and this involves kids and adults, academic writing, IELTS, business english and listening and speaking courses.
You are observed twice a year and this will go towards the decision to re-sign you after your intial two years are up. You are also judged by your class retention rates and if you have a low rate they will breathe down your neck and make your life difficult.
The managers know their stuff but will think nothing about screwing you over. They no longer fully fund the DELTA, you have to pay 25% of the cost and you do this on their terms. Doing the DELTA while also teaching 24 hours a week is no fun and incredibly stressful. They used to give people hours down to do this but they don't anymore. Yes, the pay and the development is good but you won't have much of a social life. Most of the staff I worked with, including myself were relived when their contracts were up. Most, never sought another BC job again because of it.
PM me if you want more info. |
