I'm not sure if we are allowed to discuss other websites that put teachers in contact with schools, but I have a Serious question about one of the websites, for the Teachers that use such a site. Am I allowed to ask any Serious Teachers a question on Dave's? If not, please send me a PM if you have used another website to try to find a job, and are willing to answer a question or two for me, because I have a couple of real questions, but only if you are a Serious Teacher. Wink

On the other hand, if I can simply, directly ask my question about another site in a thread, without violating, TOS, I'll do that....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
edit:

OK, I've found enough information to conclude that the Serious Teachers site is a scam, and the "person" applying for a job is a bot intended to try to get schools to place an ad.

I have had two "teachers" apply for a school position where I work, but instead of attaching a CV and scans of the required documents, they just had a link to their Serious Teacher profiles. I emailed each of them telling them that if they wanted to apply for the job, they needed to send in their CV, cover letter, and proof of passport (number omitted or blacked out -- just need to see the country and the expiration date). I told them that their information was hidden behind a pay wall, and that my school was not going to pay just to be able to see if they MIGHT be qualified and worth calling.

The response I got from BOTH of the teachers was "I contacted Serious Teachers and yes they told me you do not have an ad with them, sorry I did not realize that, but $98 US is not exorbitant and kind of makes me worry about a company that thinks it is. Thank you anyway."

Scam site is a scam, and I will now simply be deleting any applicants who apply from it...so if you are using it, be aware it may not be what you think it is.

It ticks me off that teachers are posting their profiles in good faith, and then those profiles are being used in a dating-site-eque bait-and-switch....

If you're going to dis the site in question then I can't see why Dave's would have any problem with you posting the name of the site. At the end of the day it just means more business for Mr. Sperling.

I wasn't sure I was going to dis the site when I started the thread --I just had questions, hoping to hear from someone that used the site. Since no one PM'ed me, I just started Googling around, and found a lot of folks complaining about what I had noticed. It was at that point I decided to just vent my complaints. I figure anyone who really likes the site will come out of the woodwork to slam me, and I would get the other side of the story I was looking for Smile

It is exactly the opposite of the one that popped up last year asking teachers to pay to be placed in schools in Korea. Rolling Eyes Rates were about double that though

Only if racist stuff starts getting flung around, then CC, err Koharshi, will pop up and lock the topic.
