Surely it would be more cost effective to hire a fat ESL teacher, have them walk over each vent, if okay - pass, if it falls in - fail.
I would volunteer myself - but I fall into the morbidly obese section now. If wouldn't be fair on the vent! |

| So what would you suggest they do? Leave the vents unchecked? Oh but then you would be screaming about how they don't care lol. |

Exactly.
Accidents happen. But when they happen people feel this (unnecessary) need to place blame. Because of this all this unnecessary blame placing, unnecessary action must take place, so people can feel like accidents will be prevented (they won't be).
And Lucas bitches the entire time, saying the accidents could have been prevented, and also bitching when they try to prevent the accidents. LOL |

I close my eyes and imagine this - a line of 10 pen pushers walking in a line together 'looking at' vents. The press will take a photo of it, then they'll have a 3 hour lunch break and that'll be the end of that.
The vent was perfectly safe - It just wasn't designed for 30+ people to stand on it!
The vents in and around Seoul are designed to carry a certain capacity of weight, they are safe to walk on - up to a point.
The amount will vary, depending upon the size of the vent, and the amount of surface area of supporting concrete (a lip if you will ) and the tensile strength of the steel and the thickness of it) oh and the number (if any) of cross beam supports.
Steelrails - did I miss anything in the equation? I'm only a part-time mechanical engineer.  |

I've got to go with Lucas on this one. This is mostly PR to silence the critics and to calm down anyone who's actually worried about walking the grated streets of Seoul.
I'd say though that the safety check of festival venues is probably worthwhile, although I don't think that the organizers of the free concert should have predicted that people would climb up onto a ventilator shaft to get a better look at things.
Besides, if those atttending needed a better angle to take photos--that's why they went, right?--they could have just used their selfie sticks/remote con. |

Interesting. Just yesterday you were complaining about the lack of government doing things to prevent more accidents.
So how do you determine whether or not they are
A. Doing it for PR
or
B. Serious about checking for safety

Where and how was I complaining about the government?
You can determine it here by the timing. If they were serious, they would already be doing it on a regular basis. And do you really need a team of people to do this? |
