Hey guys.
I'm not sure if I should bring my car to Korea. It's a gas guzzler- averaging about 22 mpg. The thing is, it would definitely make me look good in Seoul if I brought it and started driving it. But is it worth it since I'll have to get it registered and everything?
Edit: The car is a 2015 Corvette Stingray 3LT Z51 for those who would want to know. |

I get the feeling that money is not a problem for you, so most of the common issues with driving in Korea do not really seem to apply.
I say go for it, the paperwork is not that taxing. |

I wouldn't bring it. It will get dinged up, maybe stolen. And the hassle of importing it.
If you can afford that car, why would you come to Korea. |

I'm coming to get some teaching experience, and a well-deserved break from the US.

And with the car, bring a grammar book or two.

I know you havent arrived yet, so it may be helpful for you to know that the subway systems in most of the cities a/ arent connected to each other b/ tend to not run outside of thier own cities c/ dont run in rural areas.
Itll also be a huge headache importing your car and expensive (I would suppose at around 10/15,000,000 krw, so something you really want to do).
Also, as another poster said, I hope you know this isnt the US and if you bump your car (which you inevitably will - or someone will bump it while its parked and drive off without so much as a kiss my arse), it may be difficult getting parts/repairs.
But I say go for it! - especially if youre only coming for a year! cos you know these yellow babies will love an american in a big car - vroom vroom! |

That's actually not a bad price for importing it. That's like 14,000 USD, right? |

Gas is four or five times as much. I'm guessing insurance could be expensive since on a mid-sized Korean car it runs about a $1000 or more a year.
Parking it somewhere safe will be the hard part. Parking spaces are very tight here, and you'll see scratches and dents on a majority of the cars.
And while I've never witnessed this, there has been talk of Koreans keying expensive imported cars out of, I guess, jealousy.
A car cover would help with some of these issues.
One more thing--speed bumps are everywhere. That might be a problem for a car such as a Corvette. |

Good news is that with a decent insurance company, your cost of insurance drops by about 50% or more. My first year was 1.1 mil but dropped to 420,000 because of my good driving record. Which apparently equaled to not reporting the numerous dings and scratches because people cant drive for shit in this country.
I also feel like this poster is trolling for whatever reason. But hey good luck to you and your ventures! Id say wasting your parents money to bring over your vehicle so you could cruise around in a corvette (which isnt even a great car to begin with) will be a good opening line for you with the ladies. |
