So has anyone seen the spray-on that you can spray your license plate with to cast a reflection when being targeted by a camera? Ive heard about Korean friends using it, but so far no such luck.

On passing the test: One of my cars is heavily modified. I use it mostly for track days. It would not pass visual or emissions tests. Every few years I simply "make a donation" to someone to overlook these things during the test. Of course this is very shady. And no, I obviously cannot tell you who or where. My advice to you is to get friendly with your mechanic. Bring him gifts, bring him drinks and food etc. Cultivate a relationship. Nearly every mechanic or gas station owner knows someone who will accept a donation to pass the car. I pay less than 100,000 in extra fees for this service. A guy picks me up, drives my car to his shop, when not many customers are around, and he puts the sniffer in another vehicle. A while later I have my papers.

Regarding stickers on your plate; yes they are illegal. I have clear reflective stickers on my plates which the previous owner used to foil speed cameras. The actual police have pulled behind me countless times and have never said or done anything. What you have to be careful of are checkpoints specifically setup for this type of thing.

In your case it's easier to just fix it for the inspection and then put it back to how you like later.

So after reading posts like the ones above, are you still wondering why the authorities take a dim view of any of your sticker and light license plate mods?

You can thank guys like that for why you can't mod your car.

It was posted above, but in a fairly long post, so it might have got missed and thus I'll repeat. They're worried that cameras won't be able to take pictures of your license plate.

The inspection stations actually get little monetary rewards from the government for failing cars that are violating regulations. Basically you just have to give them a bit more incentive to just overlook the failures.

For the record, I drive that car on the race track, so passing the road inspection is just an annoying technicality that has to be dealt with. Oh, and ignore whatever steelrails says regarding modifying cars. He's been here too long and probably still doesn't drive. The Korean government has actually moved recently to lift restrictions on car modifications as a means to stimulate more jobs in that industry.
