You ought to understand the unimportance of your Ivy league degree (as far as a Korean is concerned at least) because it isn't Seoul National University.
A year or two ago I saw a job posting (for a hagwon teacher in Seoul) that said they only hired those from "top North American Universities". Ha ha, I wonder what they consider "top". I just about flew off my chair, I mean the market is saturated but not that saturated.
Seriously, look at other options.
Good luck! |

To the OP: Ignore the people who are calling you names. There are a lot of... how shall I put this... jackasses on this board. That's true of any anonymous internet forum, but still.
I haven't been on a job hunt in years, but I'm quite certain that there are high-paying jobs at hagwons that prepare students for the American SATs, and that they require their teachers to have a degree at a top US school and a very high SAT score. If you search for schools that specialise in SAT prep, you may find the kind of job you're looking for. |

Don't even mess with Korea. 2.1 million - 2.4 per month, with no experience, depending on how you negotiate. Seriously, you'll be a song and dance freak show at some hagwon, working round the clock. F that.
Seriously, with your credentials, go for a CELTA, which would complement your MA, then come to the Middle East. You can make three to four times as much as 2.1 Million won per month. Coming from Harvard (and Colombia), you would make an ideal candidate.
Gas guzzlers are welcome here, as a full tank of gas costs as much as a meal at McDonalds, etc. |

I knew it from his OP in the now deleted thread. |

You, of course.

Banging Korean women is probably one of the greater experiences I wish to gain from teaching in Korea. then I can go back to the States and have some stories to tell. |
The number one story you will have to tell is that you need a current calendar. This is 2014, almost 2015. Korea is not in dire poverty anymore and the lasses demand a lot in a lad. Being seriously in debt and making paltry EFL wage in some hagweon (and, yes, those ads that you blew by met the (supposed) qualifications you (are pretending to) have) won't cut the mustard.
Of course the OP is a troll. I felt the need to post the above to illuminate others who have yet to embark on an EFL in Korea tour.

I was going to reply but after reading the post 3 times I still have Writer's Block. I don't recall having Writer's Block since I was in Middle School.
Every time I read the post I'm stuck somewhere between mesmorized and hypnotized. |
Because you're an idiot.
This forum in particular, but also the internet in general, is filled with idiots who can't understand that people exist who are NOT like themselves. Being one of these people (unique situation, not identical to everyone else) is now called "trolling" because it makes the idiots uncomfortable. LOL, face palm at the sheer stupidity.
Anyhow there are absolutely ivy league teachers in Korea, we have met them, so yes they exist. There are also ivy league caucasians working over at Samsung, this I know for certain. My old boss brought his Ferrari here, so yes that happens too. |
Agreed on most counts, but OP is totally trolling. |

kimchininja back so soon? |
I'm disappointed. When I read this I assumed that the mods had finally banned Kimchi Ninja. No such luck. Damn you for getting my hopes up. |

Yeah. Its a shame though because he used to be quite a decent guy on here. But recently hes just become a spammer and sometimes quite offensive. |

Maybe I should clarify... I have no idea what Korean schools are looking for in an English teacher, or if they know about Ivy League universities like Columbia or Harvard. Several people have told me that Koreans live in their own bubble, so I'm really confused..
I'm choosing to work in Korea because I would like to expose myself to another culture, and from what I've read online, Korea is a good place to start. |
They sure aren't dishing out clever ones anymore, that's for sure. |

OP, let's cut to the chase. You're going to have to put up your CV on the jobs board and get in touch with as many recuiters as you can find. THEN you'll be able to figure out first hand whether or not your degrees will help you out.
For what it's worth, I put a list of 17 universities currently hiring on the 'Getting a university job without university experience' thread. Take a look. Can't hurt to mail them your CV. You never know...just like everyone else.
Best of luck to you. Don't over think it. Get to it. |

I'm just gonna pretend the OP isn't trolling -
Ignore all these people saying that Ivy League degrees mean nothing in Korea. They're either being sarcastic or just salty.
In Korea, with two Ivy League degrees you can get so many high paying gigs that normally require years of experience even if you have none. I know a couple of Ivy League holders who pretty much have a 100% success rate w/ interviews here. Both easily make over 4 mil a month. |
