I think endless reincarnation would be fine as long as we could never conclusively establish that we were being endlessly reincarnated. Which is just as it is.

I suppose, but mandatory ignorance for the sake of one's own well being would be a pretty horrible state of affairs in its own right. A world so terrible that not realizing how terrible it is can be counted as a blessing?

Well, self deprecation is pretty cool....as it extols a kind of truth or knowledge...self knowledge.
So, wouldn't it be cool if we based our existence on truth and knowledge?
A system that keeps pointing toward increasing knowledge and coming to grips with truth...like it or not.

No need for the subjunctive, that's already how I live my life. Try to, at least. It's not always easy, especially when it means admitting you were wrong about something or another in the past, and I've got some anxieties about whether skepticism is actually a challenge which can be overcome at all.

Also, it makes my wife angry.

Nano dude, you made so many fantastically-unsubstantiated assertions in that post I lost count. Confused

Well done.

When Carl Sagan said it should be tested what method do you think he had in mind?

I want to come back as the guy that invented chili in Texas, so I can put beans in it.

Did Hitler get reincarnated? Shoots himself in the head on April 30th, 1945. Having heard the news a couple have celebratory sex and concieve a child. "We're pregnant and the war is over. Things will be okay." Not so fast. Your timing sucked. Hitler's soul, released from his dead body, has just been reincarnated into your womb, and he'll be making a reappearance in nine months as your son. You're Jewish? Sorry, but the universe can't take that into consideration. Enjoy your new bouncing baby boy.

If a nuclear bomb explodes in a city of ten million killing everyone where do these 10 million souls go? Do they compete for bodies? Do they hang around in limbo until enough women get pregnant? How do they get allocated to new bodies? Is there an organizing committee? Does an aborted fetus get reincarnated? Should murderers get reduced sentences because, after all, they didn't really kill anyone? Can a person with a low IQ be reincarnated as an Einstein (or vice versa)? How come noone ever recalls being a paedophile or drug dealer in a previous life?

It's just silly.

What about the case of that Ted Williams guy? You know the baseball player who had himself cryogenically frozen after he died in the hope that scientists will one day be able to resusitate him. Now, if his soul departed his body at death, and was reassigned to another body, will this Williams dude be reanimated as a soulless zombie? Will he get a new soul? What soul would wish to enter the body of an old man? Will his new soul make him a different person altogether? Can he get his old soul back?

It's all terribly silly, isn't it?

...will this Williams dude be reanimated as a soulless zombie? - No
Will he get a new soul? - Yes
What soul would wish to enter the body of an old man? - An older soul.
Will his new soul make him a different person altogether? - Yes
Can he get his old soul back? - You haven't seen Freaky Friday?

Come on...you're not even trying.

It seemed to work out well for one immortal dead guy... at least for a bit.

Here is recent evidence that suggests literal reinCARnation - evidently aliens zapped this car along with its occupants, and they presumably are existing in another dimension and/or planet in this (or another) universe ...
