Canada beats US in World Junior Football Championship. We'll send our cornfed praire boys and poutine fed quebec players. I presume you didn't know about Canada defeating the US in the world juniors, eat that creampuff. 2013 NBA 1st pick overall was Canadian and Canadian Wiggins will be #1 overall in 2014.

You do realize that that team is a bunch of US scrubs, right?

Do you think D-1 scholarship athletes are going to risk getting a torn ACL at this meaningless event?

Canadian basketball ain't bad. Steve Nash plus Wiggins plus Bennett, plus Olynyk, plus Joel Anthony, plus Tristan Thompsan would certainly be a solid squad. Would probably get creamed by LeBron & co., but could certainly contend for silver and would have enough there to pull a surprise and do a legendary upset of Team USA in a one-off championship game.

You do realize that most of Canada is covered in snow 4-5 months of the year, has 1/10th the population of the US and probably 1/1000th of the number of football players than the US, right?

About 25 of those players were from Quebec. From what you said before a US middle school team should have been able to win the football championship.

All of that is true, but it doesn't change the fact that Canada's national team would get manhandled by a true US national team made up of the NFL's finest. Canada just doesn't have the depth and superstars necessary to compete.

Actually, I'd be far more up for a US-Canada basketball match. That WOULD be a good game and Canada would certainly not be a pushover. I think a young squad of Olynyk, Wiggins, Bennett, Tristan Thompson, and U-M 3pt machine Nick Stauskus would be a STRONG STRONG STRONG team for U-23 action, with 3 potential stars. Potentially capable of beating a U-23 team of America's best, though finding a true center would be a problem, with the USA likely bringing Andre Drummond. The talent difference between that squad and a USA squad would be like the reverse of the difference between Team Canada and Team USA in hockey- Close and competitive, with Canada having the edge.

looks like they're discussing automatic qualification for the host country in the country for Olympic Hockey.. hopefully this doesn't happen. Korea has a come a long way for hockey but they're not ready to play with the big boys. I suppose they could do what they did in Japan as someone mentioned by creating two divisions.

Why don't people bother to play curling? Can't imagine why.

Look, I'm sure curling would be great fun over beers/others but come on, do we really need to think hard about an answer to that question?

I would put curling up there with golf, table tennis, and Nascar. Boring as hell, but seems to excite someone out there.

I don't know much about football, you're probably right that the US would beat Canada handily. But didn't we all say the same about US/Canada in baseball before the start up of the WBC? Yet Canada has had 1 victory, 1 really good game lost (this year), and - I have no idea what happened the other time. Defeat I'm sure.

Back to the topic of Korean hockey........Korea will be hosting the 2014 IIHF Division I Group A Championships this April in Goyang.

It was just 10 years ago that they were paying in the Division II Group B Championships in Mokdong with the likes of Spain, Mexico and South Africa.

Mock them if you want but Korean hockey has come a long way.

I hope the Korean team loses. It's mostly because if Korea ever does something successful, something awful always happens to Korea. Tough reality.

I pray that Korea loses.

Speaking of hockey again.. the championships start this weekend up in Goyang. The Russian Ice Show (a money maker for the Mokdong rink) is in town so that's why it's out there.

GAME SCHEDULE:
Sunday 20 April
12:30 Ukraine vs Austria
16:00 Japan vs Slovenia
19:30 Korea vs Hungary

Monday 21 April
12:30 Austria vs Japan
16:00 Hungary vs Ukraine
19:30 Slovenia vs Korea

Wednesday 23 April
12:30 Slovenia vs Hungary
16:00 Ukraine vs Japan
19:30 Austria vs Korea

Thursday 24 April
12:30 Slovenia vs Ukraine
16:00 Hungary vs Austria
19:30 Japan vs Korea

Saturday 26 April
12:30 Hungary vs Japan
16:00 Austria vs Slovenia
19:30 Korea vs Ukraine

Thursday's game should be a good one. (Korea vs Japan)
I'm picking Slovenia to win with either Austria or Ukraine taking 2nd. Korea went to Russia and played some friendly games.. one game was vs an U20 team (basically a Major Junior Team) and they lost 6-3..[/url]

Yes.. they're on the national team.. as did Radunske so 3 Canadians played... Swift had two assists.. he was the highest scorer in the entire league all season and come playoffs he did diddly squat as his team was swept in 4..

Update on the Tourney:

Korea is sitting in last place with 0 points after a 7-4 loss to Hungary (whom they managed to beat last year 5-4 in a SO) and 4-0 loss to Slovenia. They will play Austria tonight and Japan on Thursday before wrapping up the tournament on Saturday with a game against Ukraine. The top two teams are promoted up to the big leagues and the last place team is demoted to division 1B.

Korea played in the European Ice Hockey Challenge. Basically, a tournament where the small European ice federations take all their young guys to see who could possibly make it to the national team. Korea took it's best players and were thrashed 6-1 in their first game vs Hungary and beat a weak Italian team in a SO and beat up Poland (who played their backup as they had 1st or 2nd already locked up). Korea took Halla's new goalie Matt Dalton who will be given Korean citizenship in due time (he was brought here to be put on the national team) Of course the propaganda coming from the KIHA has a different spin.

And they'll be 4 years older in 4 years.

Finding good ethnic-Korean players will be tough. They'll have to scour the elite-midget/junior levels in Canada, and if they are lucky, they'll find maybe 1.
