I do not hope Canada faces Korea in ice hockey. It is a waste of their time to even put on their jerseys to face the red devils on the ice.
I bet a Canada vs Korea soccer match would be closer than you think, but I'd put my money on the Koreans. |

They have played, and it was a tie.

Canada actually won that tournament. But still can't beat those little islands in the Caribbean, win it comes to WC qualifying.
Say whatever about Korean soccer being plagued with favoritism, cronyism, and whatever. But you can say the same thing about Soccer Canada. |

at something that there doesn't really seem to be that much information about. Did Korea actually field their regular national team? |

Canada was leading Brazil 2-1 in a soccer game before the Brazilians came back to win 4-2.
Things change fast. As much as the Koreans are a bunch of whiners and divers on the field, they have improved a lot in the last many years. |

It was their regular team. It was at the beginning of Hiddink's tenure, and he was taking a lot of heat for the lousy showing in the tournament. The media was blasting him for setting up friendlies against powerhouse teams like France and getting blown out by them. But that's the only way you you'll improve, by playing those powerhouse teams in instead of playing Vietnam, and Thailand. |

Korea played in the European Ice Hockey Challenge. Basically, a tournament where the small European ice federations take all their young guys to see who could possibly make it to the national team. Korea took it's best players and were thrashed 6-1 in their first game vs Hungary and beat a weak Italian team in a SO and beat up Poland (who played their backup as they had 1st or 2nd already locked up). Korea took Halla's new goalie Matt Dalton who will be given Korean citizenship in due time (he was brought here to be put on the national team) Of course the propaganda coming from the KIHA has a different spin.

And they'll be 4 years older in 4 years.
Finding good ethnic-Korean players will be tough. They'll have to scour the elite-midget/junior levels in Canada, and if they are lucky, they'll find maybe 1. |
Who knows.. Yes, they'll all be in their mid 30's by then certainly not spring chickens when it comes to hockey. They need more international experience hence whey they went to this tourney. Unfortunately they just played in a group of teams that they've met before.. Their U20 team played the challenge cup of Asia and lost every single game to Kazakhstan, Russia and Japan. Those are the kids that will be on the team come 2018 and whom I would consider getting out to more international tournaments... |
