|

Not up on the news too much with work, but my friend mentioned a professor at SNU has been indicted for sexually assaulting an intern who was working in his department at the University. Sounds like others have also come forward to point the finger at the guy. I suppose Korea is finally waking up to the fact that sexual crime in this country is carried out way too much. If anyone has more details, please share. Thanks. |

According to the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, the professor is suspected of groping the intern after making her sit on his lap on a bench at a park near the Han River on July 28.
They were both mildly drunk from an after-work gathering, the prosecution said. |
Not sure what to think of that scenario. Intern gets berated by professor. She wants him to be more kind to her, they both get "mildly" (read: probably a lot) drunk. Her inhibitions are down.
Did he got for an unsolicited grope, or was she trying to sweet talk him into taking it easier on her?
Next morning she sobers up and we have this.

This doesn't seem like much to go on.
Just a 'he said she said'...with alcohol involved.
Tob55 mentioned others coming forward...this story requires more evidence. |

If they prosecute him, then the evidence should come out in the court.
But I know of two instances where coed grad students claimed sexual harassment with ulterior motives. So the professor is not always the bad guy. |

Many female students and grad students behave like groupies. And many male teachers screw their female students. Nothing new. It's been happening since time began.
There's always more to these stories that is not reported. Someone pissed someone else off for something other than is reported in this story.
When I'm in my office with female students, I kick the door open and leave it open. I've even been asked by students to close the door and I just tell them to leave it open.
But there are male teachers who abuse their positions and cross boundaries by taking advantage of doting, young female students. Still, it doesn't excuse the groupism that I see in a lot of female students, either. They need to be told that it's business and to keep it that way.
I also do not drink with my students, especially female students. That's a disaster waiting to happen. Yet, I do know teachers who do drink with their students, both female and male. |
