Since I've lived here, there have been news articles about price fixing in milk, ice cream, instant noodles, semiconductors, trucks, LCDs, mobile phones, appliances, air travel, etc. wth?

Black Friday really illustrates how inflexible Korean prices can be throughout the year for home consumer goods.

I will be interested to see how many TVs this year will be bought by Koreans during Black Friday/Cyber Monday or if the domestic market will at least try to be competitive with price matching.

Nongshim said that the price-fixing in Korea is separate from its items sold in the United States.

Am I not understanding something or did Nongshim just admit that they price fix in Korea?

Great article. I can't stand how I have to pay one or two dollars for a subpar package of gum and pay so much for all the other cheap goods.

I would prefer fair prices all year round and moderate sales rather than rip-off prices and huge discounts.

In Korea we all get the short end of the stick on both sides.

What really bites is that in the U.S. it's the poor who live off ramen, so the higher prices were making them that much poorer.

There's always no name macaroni. The natives in Canada have been living off that for years.

this is not true. No one I know ever bought that, at least not regularly.
The Kraft Version is like 50 cents more, Canadians usually buy that

I'm talking about poor people. The Kraft crap tastes so much better but the price difference between no name and brand name is quite wide.

Yeah the only Kraft Dinner substitute that is any good is the President's Choice White Cheddar. That however is the same price or more than the craft. You'd think No-name would taste the same as the PC (for most products No-name comes from the same factory and is identical as PC because they are the same company, even some Mcains stuff as the No name version has the same relationship) but no the No-name stuff isn't as good.

I remember delivering flyers and newspapers in my high school years, and one particularly scummy house having a no-name macaroni box being used as a mailbox.

Not mac and cheese. Just plain macaroni.
