Korea is this decade's Japan.
Time to move on

Not yet, but soon. Japan was great prob from the late 70's to the early to mid 90's. Then from that time to the mid to late 2000's, it was ok (but clearly declining). The 2008 recession had sealed Japan's fate. You don't go there to make money anymore. You go there to experience the culture or living there and just get by. Cheaper than an extended vacation there, I guess. But, you won't be able to send money home to pay loans and debts.

I would say Korea is where Japan was in the 90's and on the verge of entering the 2000's decade. Korea has a few years left in it. But, by next decade (unless there's another global economic boom), Korea will be out. Already, newbies should avoid here and just jaunt over to China.

I remembered meeting a girl a few years older than me who taught in Japan and came back to Canada about 10 years back. She taught in Japan and loved it. She saved money and it was a good experience. I asked about Korea and she said not to go there - backward. But she was there (Japan) late 90's and early 2000's. Korea in the 90's, unprofessional, contracts not homored, etc. Japan, professional, contracts honored, then. So, Korea is now where Japan was then (late 90's early 2000's). Korea is down for different reasons than Japan is. Japan has had structural economic problems and Korea is down because it's ability to export has been down since 2009.

China is on the verge of overtaking Korea, as a work destination, but is still 2 to 3 years away from that.
