|
|
I just received a call from someone. They claim they are from my internet company (Olleh KT) and told me that I'm paying too much for my monthly internet bill. I pay 33,000 per month right now. But since I've been here for over 4 years, they said I could have paid only 25,000 per month. I told them, the reason why I didn't opt for that long-term contract was because our jobs only go from year to year contract so I didn't want to sign up for 3 or 5 years if I was only going to be here for 1 year, and then have to pay some sort of penalty or fee for breaking the contract.
My question though is, when I tried to call Olleh, all of their customer service hours are closed (6 pm). So nobody can take calls for sales or repairs. So if that's the case, then why is someone from Olleh KT cust. service calling me telling me they want me to take a picture of my Registration card and text it back to them to switch over to the 26,000 won / month rate?
I just want to make sure if this is legit or if this could be some scammer trying to get my ID info.
If it's legit, I still don't understand then why their customer service hours are closed after 6pm so we can't reach anyone or talk to anybody, but then workers from there can still contact us at 8pm??? Seems odd to me. If they were going to tell me that I could be paying less for my internet bill, why wouldn't they just call me during working hours? |

I had that kind of contract before, I pay for the 4 years plan with a one year visa .. once it's time to cancel the contract you will pay the difference as it is a one year contract.
but sending a picture of your ARC in a text msg !!! that doesn't sound right.
I wouldn't do it. |

yeah, I know about the contract but I thought the two things: 1) calling me at 8pm when their hours are closed and 2) asking me to text them a picture of my ID card were both unusual.
I'll wait til tomorrow and call KT during opening hours and see what they say. |

called the official kt hotline number in english service and they couldn't confirm or deny if that call I got was official or not. They did say it sounded a little unusual but they couldn't confirm if it was them or not.
I'm just leaving it and not going to respond to that call. Too fishy. |

Thats pretty amateurish. Surely they would have the call on record if it really was them?
And surely they could tell you whether it is their policy to ask customers to txt photos of id cards?
Sometimes Korean customer service is so ass about face.
Someone told me that Korea is the number one phone/voice phishing place in the world. |

The carriers here are desperate to hold onto customers. They give deals like this all the time. |
