Already happens, on a smaller scale, and on Saturdays instead of Fridays. |

99.9% I applaud the mods' here - now is the odd 0.1% chaps!
Why in the world was the other (todays) thread locked - that makes zero sense _ so what the topic has been discussed before??? - maybe there are some new members who have new ideas - -= new thread- I suspect since the old thread (which I never saw and looks fairly simple) needs to be buried.. and not LOCKING the newest thread - maybe the way to go?????
Just look at the rather impassioned discussion the debate caused in Pusan - now that is what we need here! Lively debate - not debate killed because someone thinks it is old hat!

for pusan's take on the issue
now lets open todays thread and do something similar |

This is the most valid "anti-union" point. Most people stay one or two years then leave. Those of us who've been here for some time (OMG, has it REALLY been 7 years???) have found our "niche" and are content.
The only fairly long-term (barring KOTESOL! ) group is the over 40 gang that meets once a month in Seoul. (I've never been, although I qualify...they always seem to go to these outrageously expensive restaurants...or are held on a weekend that I have plans for!).
Contented people do not a union make! |

One of the major complaints on the old board was how certain topics would be brought up every month or so and rehashed, as that board had a limited archive. We endured it for years as there was nothing we could do about it.
One of the major advantages of this new board is the search engine that goes back since the new board began, now six months ago. Just because a thread is old, doesn't mean it's dead. Old threads stay open and active. A new thread about an old subject that's been discussed at length is redundant. We don't need 45 union threads, or 60 "Canadian tax" threads, or 210 "hogwon teachers can't get jobs back home" threads...
You're free to add whatever "new ideas" you'd like to contribute to the issue here in this thread, or in the other thread link I provided. This way, if anyone wants to find out about the subject in the future, there will be one or two core threads. This makes the board more useful, and in no way "shuts down" discussion.
It also bumps the old subject back up top, exposing all the ideas expressed in it to new readers. |
