Oscar-winning director Mike Nichols, husband of ABC News presenter Diane Sawyer, has died at the age of 83, ABC confirms to Us Weekly.

Nichols, who won an Oscar for directing the 1967 film The Graduate, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the evening.

I've seen about half of his films, and probably most of what would be considered his most memorable, but I can't say that I ever recognized a particular style that ran through them, or even any recurring motifs.

Which is not to say his films weren't good. In fact, it would be difficult for me to pick a favorite. Though I will say it's not likely to be The Graduate. I think I came to that one a little too late in life(and perhaps history) to appreciate it. One of those things where you've grown up with all this hype around it, and when you finally see it, it's kind of like "Oh well, that's pretty much what I was expecting."

I think I'm gonna say my Top 3 were Primary Colors, Carnal Knowledge, and Wolf, in that order. This list can probably be explained largely by my interest in politics and the persona of Jack Nicholson, which might indicate how realtively light a directorial stamp Nichols put on his films.

For a tribute, since it was probably his most iconic scene...

I had no idea he did so much. Quite impressive.
