Forgive me if this has been asked before. Couldn't find it.

Situation: Last day of work on E-2 is November 28.
Going home December 10- January 14 for a visit.
Hoping to get a D-10 processed and in my hands before I leave on Dec. 10, but I hear you can't start until your last day at current job. I hear it takes up to a couple of weeks, but I only have ten days. Since from what I read they take your ARC at immigration when you apply for D-10, I have been told to get a "proof of alien registration" (a kind of temporary ID card to use at the airport and for ID purposes) to use in lieu of an ARC card, which may not be prepared yet. So worst case, the D-10 visa arrives via mail in my apartment (which is not connected to my job by the way) while I am sipping hot chocolate in the USA.

Does all this sound like being fairly doable? Thanks!
May the trolls be merciful.
