I'll be returning to Korea after a few years abroad and will be working in the food industry. Are lemons cheaper and more widely available since the FTA with the USA? I'm considering the feasibility of having lemons and lemon juice as major ingredients. Have you noticed any changes at your local grocery store?

I'm guessing the demand for limes is still not fulfilled?

Just (as in 30 minutes ago) bought three lemons from the local mid-size mart. 3000 won.

About normal price wise for Korea. Much more expensive then one would pay in NZ or Australia. Lemons are pretty widely available in this area.
Never seen a lime in my time here.

Is there any fruit that isn't overpriced in Korea?

Lemons are still overpriced and limes are more expensive per weight than Korean beef. It was 5,000 won for 1 lime at E-Mart.

I read an article recently that said Mexican drug cartels are trying to corner the lime market. It has driven up prices.

It's seasonal.
Sometimes they are very cheap. I don't remember when.
When it's cheap you can get 5 or 6 for 2,000Krw.
Big chain stores don't sell them cheap. Local markets, large non-chain supermarkets and larger vegetable/fruit vendors are your best bet.

They're affordable at Costco--a big bag for 10 or 11000won depending on time. Limes are definitely hard to come by.

Lemons are pretty much a staple in the supermarkets now. There are lots of small stands selling "lemonade," which is made with "cider" and IMO tastes terrible, cheaply.

I just buy those plastic lemon shaped containers full of real lemon juice. Or lime juice. The lime ones are a similar price and size.

It's good for gin and tonic.
