|

Hi guys. Just hoping to get a bit of advice about extending my stay. Let me give you the basic details.
- I've been studying here for almost 2 years now. I have just finished my thesis and am due to graduate. My ceremony will be next year.
- The D2 visa expires on February 5th 2015.
- I plan to leave Korea some time next June, but I will not technically be a student any longer after February 5th 2015. Is there some way that I can extend my student visa or convert over to a different type of visa that would allow me to stay a little longer?
If possible, how long could I extend my visa and what are the provisions for this?
Thank you so much. |

If you haven't yet formally submitted your thesis, you could delay your graduation until the end of the following semester. At my uni you are allowed to enroll for a semester for free if you are only writing your thesis, so the same might be true for your uni.
As for the renewal, it is pretty easy as long as you have at least a C grade average. There isn't even any financial requirement as there was when you first applied for the D2.
Even if you have submitted your thesis, I would still try asking the Int. office if you could extend your enrollment for a semester. |

You could possibly extend your visa and delay the actual presentation until the following semester. Keep in mind however since actual graduation ceremonies/degrees are not typically handed out until a 2-3 weeks before the new semester starts, (and if you still planned to leave in June) you would not be here for the graduation, (which would usually be in Mid-August, or Mid February) and basically have to have your degree shipped to you.
I recommend as another suggested, either moving to the D-10 or otherwise take a trip to Japan and reenter as a tourist and graduate on time. |
