How do you people know what really happened. It could have been the
kid's father cautioning him to keep his johnson in his pants where it
belongs. I'm a father and kids do some pretty weird things with their
junk.
Moreover, if it was a bona fide sexual assault, why would the alleged
paedophile be doing this out in public? |

On a board which sees daily idiocy, the comment above may win some kind of award as one of the stupidest things ever said on daves esl cafe.
I feel like we need some kind of ceremony. Congrats FDNY. |

Hey Noob, why do you think priests and their ilk got away with this kind
of thing for so long? It is because these crimes were committed behind
closed doors where, even if there were parents, nothing would ever be
seen. Try using your brain. |

Not only was he doing it out in public, he was a white foreigner doing it out in public wearing apparel that identified him as working for an international school.
Anyway, stranger things have been reportedly seen in Korea by posters on this board. Remember when someone swore they had seen Big Foot out in a rice field somewhere. |

If it's an International school, report it.
As a parent here, one who's kid goes to an international school, I know I'd want it reported. |

Report it to the police.
Walk into the closest police station and just start speaking in English. If they don't have an English speaker, come back with a Korean friend.
Remember, this crap is not cool. It could be your kid or cousin or nephew. Get this dude fired at least. |

It is not yet an International school. According to the OP, the school he was visiting is a potential international school. |

They won't do anything.
They don't want their reputation harmed.
They will either give the teacher concerned a rap on the knuckles, or find some other pretext to get rid of him and he will be set free to continue his abuses elsewhere.
If you had reported it to the police they might have done something. More likely they would not have viewed it seriously, or if they did, would have gone to the school seeking a bribe to keep it hush. |

It matters to the law. Touching a shoulder in even the most hypersensitive of countries could at most get you a simple assault charge, an in reality a civil infraction like "disorderly jostling". Touching a woman's rear could get you a criminal sexual conduct charge and put on the sex offender registry. You need to be specific if you want advice. Playing coy isn't helping in the decision making process.
It's also important because if he was only touching her shoulder, and you do accuse him of "inappropriate conduct" and don't specify what it is when you report it, he in turn could sue you for defamation of character or some similar charge.
Inappropriate conduct is defined by the law, not your opinion. That's why you need to be specific.

You're not in Canada anymore genius. Your Canadian procedures mean squat here. If indeed your story is true (and not Towel Slapper 2014), then you could have seriously put yourself at risk and thats why we needed detail and tried to give you advice, which you NEED to listen to. |
Good call and great post SR.

Exactly.
Before we get out the pitchforks and light the torches, what did the guy actually do?
All we have is one side of the story, and they won't even describe the actions in any detail, and instead hide behind the word "inappropriate", which could mean literally anything.
If you are going to make an accusation and potentially ruin a person's future career prospects, you'd better have something substantial, rather than just tattling on a whim. False or exaggerated accusations do damage to people too. |

You have dealt with multiple problems regarding inappropriate behavior with students?
How many times? How were you involved? |

You're an expert lawyer suddenly?

..and he could easily be sued if he spews details of a criminal case online.

Why the requests for titillating details?
Its enough to simply say "inappropriate touching". After that its a police matter. The winess puts themselves at legal risk if they divulge their version online before state proceedings have run their course. |

It was posted on a public forum, and the details matter in terms of how to view this. If they are holding back for legal purposes, then fine, but then why post at all?
We don't know the school so everything is hypothetical at this point. We don't know if there is anything "titillating" ...or if it's just someone who is prone to over-reaction and tattles at a moments notice at anything she doesn't approve of. I've worked with that type of person before. Almost anything said around them was "inappropriate" or "harassment" and they would not only exaggerate, but would twist the facts significantly. She basically had a few screws loose and luckily management knew it.

In Korea or Canada? What constitutes "inappropriate" would differ between countries and perhaps individuals too? When I first arrived in Korea I was surprised at how much they would touch the students. But it's a foreigner so now there's a different standard in play.
In most cases like this I'd give the OP the benefit of the doubt but the story is a bit suspicious. Most foreign teachers know they are under the microscope here, yet this guy was out in the open with a school uniform on, supposedly doing something nefarious or "inappropriate". Anything is possible. Whatever, it's already been reported so let's hope justice is served if he really is guilty of anything. |

It doesn't take a lawyer to tell the difference between a pat on the back and a pat on the patootie.
It also doesn't take a lawyer to know how differently each one will be treated in Korea.
