She had recently turned in her notice (30 days) due to some health issues, which are in fact, true. Her BP was off the chart during her medical check and she recently went to the Int. Clinic in Itaewon. However, she really has no obligation to tell the school why she went but according to what she told me, the doctor told her it is in her best interest to leave And get back home.

The trouble is, her director is NOT acknowledging her resignation, even for valid health issues, and is dodging about on simply emailing her back (not even showing up to school).

Even more so, once she put in her notice, all of a sudden, complaints from parents came out of the woodwork and now they are simply video recording every class she teaches...aside from the CCTV.

She has been at the schoolers than 6 months so, if they give her the boot tomorrow, there is nothing she can do. But, considering the reputation of the owner and the fact she IS resigning for some health issues that need to be addressed, and at the same time, being in Korea is not helping her out.

Is there something she can do? She feels as if she is being held hostage with this matter, even though she was doing the right thing, but the devil school owner will not acknowledge her resignation but seemingly, is now out to fire her.

Due to the nature of her resignation, can she get the LB involved (she was told, that if her classes go well, her resignation will be honored...but she turned it in a week ago and no reply. BUT, she did mention she had the manager, not owner, sign as s witness...does that hold up?)?

I feel bad for this gal....

She has 2 options:\

1) stick it out. Complete her 30 days and leave. She will likely (virtually 100% assured) not be paid for that work.

2) Leave at her convenience. No-one will stop her. Go to the airport and get on a plane.

Just bail out.
They are recording her so they can cherry pick some bad moments and justify not paying.
Leave ASAP.

Giving 30 day notice is required by the labor law for any employers to lay off someone, but is not required for employees in case of an employee leaving a job on a fixed term contract. Employees may be obligated to present a prior notice if employment contract mandates to do so, but incompliance to the obligation is just a breach of a contract, not a violation of any law.

As long as someone has not broken any laws, he/she is free to leave Korea.

Here’s what Korean Civil Act reads:

Article 661 (Unavoidable Cause and Right to Rescind Contract for Future)
Even where a fixed period for the employment has been set by the parties, either party may, if any unavoidable cause arises, rescind the contract for the future: Provided, That if such cause arises out of the negligence of one of the parties, such party is liable for damages to the other party.

She used to post on here back in theh day...some of the guys may know here..on the forum anyway.

I think she is just going to bail when payday comes. I sooke to her again this morning and she is receiving the same run-around.

She's decided to put her health first and give the ROK the nice V shape with her fingers.

I don't see any advantage to sticking around for 30 days in this case.

For anyone else considering leaving and giving notice, here's my advice. Don't give your notice until payday. That way you can decide based on your boss' reaction whether it's worth actually staying for the whole 30 days. If they take it badly, you can leave ASAP without worry about losing too much of your salary.

She was just trying to do the right thing....goes to show I guess.

As I said, she used to post in here, but according to her, someone named "fromtheUK" scared her off with some dodgy PM's...

Make pretty sure the Hagwon you are going to work for is a decent one prior to getting an E2 visa. Better yet, it's best to work for public schools.

Anyone care to share about who from "fromtheUK" was anyway?

Hijacking my own thread, yes. But, my gal pal made her decision so, I am just curious.

Yes, that guy.

What is even more ironic, is the post right after, referring to him (I assume) as "a sock".

I actually met a teacher, some years a ago who went out, in public, and talked to people using his own personal puppet...or sock, whichever.

He was from the UK.

Coincidence?

(True story. I only had a beer with him once and he did the sock puppet dialogue to the poor Korean waitress. I assume the look on my face, then the look on her face, followed by both if us looking at each other, all...priceless. Moreover, he was my neighbor).
