I recently agreed to work for a third year at this place. But they boondoggled their finances and they realized too late that they couldn't afford to re-hire me... this realization came to them while I was home on vacation visiting family. And, of course they didn't have the balls to tell me while I was home. So, I came back and silence ensued up until my visa was re-newed a month late, even though I'd told my manager well in advance.

(sigh)

I like working for these guys. They don't micro-manage... in fact, they rarely manage at all, which is perhaps, kinda the problem. I think it's simply that they are a chain of hagwons owned by a bunch of old golf buddies that just show up occasionally and collect their cut. When the chiefs are away, the higher ranking indians are likely shopping online because the "t's" are never crossed and the "i's" are never dotted... at least not in a timely manner.

Anyway, I agreed to stay on part-time. I net 1.7 (including housing) for 15 hours a week. They're still paying pension and taxes but I recently got a paystub (very rare) and I realized they are making deductions for taxes and pension as if I were still full-time. I know that when we went through Immi, they told me to say I was full-time and that they would just pay me as part-time and that I could work at another place with their blessing to make up the hours.

It's a pinch for sure though. My rent is 500 so that leaves 1.2 and after everything is deducted I'm left with slightly more than 900. I can survive (and save a bit) on this amount and I chose this option. So, I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if they are doing something overly dodgy and if I should be worried.

You net 1.7 or 0.9? Net means after everything is taken out. Housing is included or not? Included means you don't pay rent. …bit confusing the way you put it…

If you are happy with those working hours and that pay, then great. Probably can't get another job, though. Need to consider also that you're paying a high tax rate if they report your wages being much higher. The extra pension they're paying comes back to you, IF they are actually paying it at the correct amount. Are you in NHIS as well?

I just got a letter from NPS with a summary of my pension funds. Everyone should be getting these yearly, normally sent to the place of employment.

From what I understand, your deductions are based on your declarations for a previous period (not sure if monthly, yearly, or other). I remember that after getting a raise my deductions remained the same for a few months and when I asked about it they explained that in a few months my deductions would be recalculated and that the difference would be sorted out come tax time. I've been here for a few years (everything is on the up and up here) and it has been that way everytime I get a raise.

If this is the case then you will be due a nice chunk of change some tax season. But, I could be totally wrong.
