Used to calm the population.
Opiate of the masses, as they say.

Given the openness and questioning nature of societies such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iran, and the repressive nature of the regimes in Canada and Germany, we can clearly see a correlation between alcohol use and submissiveness to a brutal regime.

Yeah we disagree on this.
But I don't mean calming revolutionary instincts.
More like just day to day stresses of living in a hyper competitive society with 50mil people crammed into a tiny space. That's why its 80cents per bottle! Imagine what it costs to make? 10cents a bottle? Can't be too high quality at that price

In Guangzhou, China, Chinese soju ( 415 ml - 50% alc by volume )
costs approximately 66.66 cents. Makes Korean soju look like health
food, as the Koreans claim that it is.....

Despite the alcohol content being much higher, the stuff is actually more clean than soju by a mile.

In the mid 90s there was a sweet potato shortage and the big soju companies started using other ingredients. They never went back.

Soju still smells and tastes like rubbing alcohol.

Soju is a drink for peasants.

How I miss the nightly entertainment, of seeing Korean men in shiny suits, toes up in the gutter, sleeping on a puddle pillow of puke.

I must admit - on one hand, soju is a big sponsor of our apologist brotherhood club. On the other hand, why drink soju when there is makkoli and, more importantly, the refreshing Cass (or what is also known as the hidden wonder of the world).

During our weekly meetings, we have discovered that while soju allows our members to see the Truth more clearly, the duration of the 'enlightenment' tends to be shorter than with other eye opening beverages (makkoli and Cass).

As such, while we condemn any foreigner that speaks ill of soju, we do not believe that soju is the best alcoholic beverage in the world. That honor goes to Cass.

Are obese apologists forced to drink Cass Lite?

To be perfectly honest, our club does not have obese apologists. The reason being, in order to be accepted into our club, applicants have to pass a physical test, where they are sent to Dokdo and are expected to survive there for 30 days on nothing more than 10kg of kimchi and 30 litters of Cass. Needless to say, we find even some of the more obese applicants tend to 'shape up' after this, what we call, 'trip of enlightenment'.
