(Previous E-2 Visa holder, currently Tourist, American Citizen)

My E-2 Visa has been expired for awhile now. I would like to apply for a new one and I'm looking for advice on how to go through the process again ( obtaining USA-STANDARD fingerprint chart, FED criminal background check, getting that apostiled, getting my degree apostiled as well(?)) ...

Or do I have to do all of those things over again? I was planning on getting another E-2 visa which is why I let it expire. I am hoping it isn't too difficult... Especially mailing everything from Korea to America... and back to Korea... multiple times. Sad

I'd appreciate any advice offered! Smile Thank you!

If your E2 expired more than 90 days ago OR you have been out of Korea for more than 90 days then you need new documents (FBI check and degree copy) with apostilles.

If your E2 expired less than 90 days ago and you have not been out of Korea for more than 90 days then you can find a new job and do a simple visa run to Japan (4 working days) to get a new visa.

The process is:
1) Find a new job
2) Employer applies for a visa confirmation number (4-10 working days)
3) Do your visa run to Japan (4 working days)
4) Start work. Apply for ARC within 90 days.

IF you want to work at a PS rather than a hagwon then you NEED a new FBI check.

My E-2 expires in Feb......I extended my contract with my school through the end of May. Yesterday, my school took my ARC card to immigration and had it extended through June.

Do I need to do anything with my E2? I plan on leaving Korea at the end of May and not returning if that matters.

If you are 100% sure you won't return then do nothing but enjoy the flight home.

IF there is even a slim chance that you will want to return in the near future then turn in your ARC as you leave (canceling your status of sojourn in the process).

You can't cancel your ARC while abroad and you can't get a new visa with a unexpired ARC.
