|
|
Is there anyone who knows anything about immigration rules? Any help much appreciated.
I have done my research and I qualify for a F4 Visa and I was told by both UK and Seoul consulate that it would be easier and faster for me to change my VISA status in Korea. But I just realised that if I enter Korea with my English passport that I need to buy a return ticket (as English passports require you to return to England within 90 days), but obviously I don't need one as I plan to stay in Korea.
In this situation is it possible for me to get a single ticket? Must I get a return?
Thank you in advance. |

I don't really know about immigration rules, but I might be able to give you something to think about or inquire about. Does having an English passport require you to return to England within 90 days or does it only allow you to stay in Korea for 90 days? Why wouldn't having proof of an ongoing ticket be sufficient for entering Korea? I have heard of foreigners who have entered Korea with a tourist visa on a one-way ticket WITH an ongoing ticket to Japan (to show as proof to immigration). Then, once they enter Korea, they cancel the ticket to Japan (making sure you get something that's fully refundable). Not sure if this would be possible, for you, but it might.
But aren't return tickets usually the same price (or cheaper) than buying a one-way ticket in the first place? |

IF you want to fly in on a UK passport AND are flying as a 90-day tourist - visa exemption then YOU NEED an exit (not return) from Korea ticket dated within 90 days.
The EASIEST solution to the problem is a one way ticket to Korea with a separate (REFUNDABLE) ticket to "The Philippines" (or other cheap destination) dated within 90 days.
This satisfies the requirements of having an exit ticket and keeps the airline happy (else you may be denied boarding for your flight to Korea).
A ticket to the Philippines (or other nearby visa free destination) is usually pretty cheap. If refundable then great - get your refund.
If the exit ticket isn't refundable then it doesn't hurt too bad if you are only kissing 150 quid away (even if it is better if you are not doing so).
It is of note here that if the ticket is bought on a credit card then the refund is usually credited back in a week or less. If you pay cash for the ticket it can take MONTHS to see the refund.

If you can clearly convince them that you are not planning to work on a tourist visa and that you are planning to leave the country then you dont need one..i have done this many times..you can also say you are getting the busan ferry to japan..but you can only book the ticket one month in advance..
This responsability is only on the flight company in your departing airport..as if you are refused entry..they have a responsibility to fly you back..
So you have to convince them at the check in desk. |

You can risk it and go on a one way. I've done it plenty of times. It's pretty random if they enforce it, and considering it's a UK passport, I don't think they'd be too worried you'd be stranded in Korea. |
