Whoa! Dodge, this is your last account here. Do you really want to go through the hassle of creating another? |
What's with the stalking?
You got the wrong guy. |
Really? Sorry about that. I guess I really did think you were Dodge. Oh well. |

It's common that Korean males who move to America live with their uncle and aunt. They work the 12 hour, 7 night per week shift at the uncle's SMILEE MART on the corner in LA.
Westerners are out seeing the world, independent and free. |
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that someone who works at the ol liquor store in LA till 2AM sees a fair bit of the world. Probably more of the "real world" than some backpacking trip in Europe or hitting up Burning Man.
Actually, isn't part of the real world having responsibilities and leading a disciplined life and doing the best you can at your studies? Isn't that a corollary to freedom?
Anyways, for those who rag on the Korean experience, may I ask what your mighty accomplishments are that warrant such a poopooing of their lives? |

As I mentioned before, the whole reason the topic was raised was more or less to take a shot at Korean men.

No, it was about how a few ajummas mentioned that, in their opinion, Korean men don't save enough money.
Most of the comments were about how many of these guys actually should have plenty of cash as many of them are parent funded until very late in life, and in addition never had to do much, including household chores or work a part-time job; they simply have to "study". People who never had to do any chores are often spoiled and a bit clueless about certain areas in life. Do you deny that's often true? Or did you just need to get on the white horse and ride around for a bit to defend the "defenseless" when nobody really attacked them anyway?
I'd love to be bankrolled until 30 and get a free house and furniture. Not exactly a scathing attack to mention it when it happens.

Yet I highly doubt more than a handful of people here have saved an amount of money themselves those same ajummas would have considered acceptable at the age of the men we are talking about. Id love to know how many of you here had 100,000 USD or more, saved up sitting in your own accounts with NO help from family/connections, and saved that money all the while working and supporting yourselves 100% alone.

My neighbor, and plenty of other people I know here. And if I wasn't funding my own tuition, I wouldn't be far behind.
But anyway, who made this a battle? You did. I didn't see anybody say they saved more than Korean men, that was not really the issue. You're barking up the wrong tree.

By the way OP, I'd love to hear back from those ajummas and know what they considered a decent amount of money saved for a man to avoid the "he didn't save enough" rap. |
There's probably no amount that would satisfy them... IF one of their friends husbands saved more than theirs. You know how they love to compare everything, right down to the colorful mountain gear.
("Oh, no! Now they're attacking ajummas!")

Hey, victim complex... most of the comments here are simply mentioning differences between the cultures and how people are raised, yes there is a bias as everyone is in their own corner, but that's just how it goes.
There's actually a bit of sympathy going on here. Most westerners would not want to trade places with a Korean guy in Korea (except maybe the parent funded spoiled ones), and it probably goes the same way for most Korean guys; they are happy doing their thing was well. (Or at least as happy as they know life to be.) |

Actually I started the thread not to diss Korean men, but basically because I feel sorry for them. Re-read the first post.
Then Kimchi rails and the usual dudes got all defensive for some reason. |

I think you brought back some unhappy memories for the dude....poor guy had to pull 18 hour shifts, 7 days a week, at his uncle's dry cleaners. |
