I think the problem lies not in Korea's ability to build things but on the lack of apparent oversight by more senior workers/management to ensure that it's being built to code and recognized safety regulations.

Considering the project and tower has the oversight from American and many other international firms who went through tons of inspections and tests from the government to even get the place open, your claims are unfounded and are typical of people who get the jollys rattled by sensational journalism.

They went through tons of inspections by Seoul City Council because the last time cracks appeared on the structure Lotte passed the stability check inspection off to a Lotte-affiliated company who basically rubber stamped their report that everything was great.

Just because International firms are involved doesn't mean they have day-to-day running of the site. Carillion are managing the Qatar World Cup Stadiums construction but the build has been plagued by a host of problems because of local "cultural" issues aka slave labour.

Your reading comprehension fails you as usual.

It's to keep up with the project. You know, photos, news articles, etc.

Try to keep up.

Your life must be pretty dull if watching a skyscraper go up and posting inane comments on its progress via the Internet turns your crank.

But then TIK.

Yours has rusted shut if you have to resort to using the nickname I gave you in a post directed at me.

And by the way, I'm still waiting on that water. You're not busy with sr's laundry, are you? Still?

Why don't we just take bets on it falling or not?

Anyone care to give a time frame?

Also, are these concerns lowering real estate prices in the area? Time to buy (to rent out of course)! Twisted Evil

It probably won't actually fall. But as we see many examples of, there is often a "shoddy" way of doing things here, and we know there are bribes a plenty as well, so that doesn't inspire confidence.

Interesting that so many people actually seem to want the thing to fall or have some major accident.

Anything to get their "I hate Korea" jollies going I guess.

Even all those sinkholes they were freaking out about turned out to be because of the subway extension:

Just more hysteria from the media and more people following every little thing they hear. Haven't you guys figured out that the media is not there to report truth, but to report a story regardless of facts? As long as it gets the people riled up.

Look at this sick post:

"Hmmm... when I think about it, maybe the building should collapse, to give the government an even bigger wake-up call. Nothing better than looking bad in the eyes of the world with a modern building collapsing within months of finishing construction, to really shake things up. "

Yes, let's hope a building collapses and kills hundreds of people.

Lol?

Have any of you condemning the Lotte Mall actually been there? Yes, there have a few too many safety flaws with the building, but considering the scale of the building, I think it is to be expected. The mall and tower together will be something like 4 million square feet. Of course there are going to be some flaws. On the whole, though, I'd say that the building is very solid, as well as architecturally and aesthetically impressive.

Also, it's not like Lotte has never built any huge malls or towers before. The Lotte Department Store and Hotel have been standing in Myeongdong for over 35 years with no major problems. I don't foresee this Lotte World Tower being any different.
