Sometimes I just take a step back to marvel at how unbelievably weird and bizarre Korea can be.
For example, the Donga Ilbo is one of the most widely ready and influential newspapers in Korea. They publish a few pages in English, only on the web. I visited the site to check on Korean news, and discovered this completely random story:
Why was Mozart kicked in the ass?
http://english.donga.com/srv/service.php3?biid=2014121644258
It is a gem and an instant classic of Korean-English 'journalism.'
It's clearly written by somebody who is still learning English. Yet, the person obviously took the time to do some research on Mozart. Yet, you can count the English mistakes, and they are found in almost every sentence.
Why would this random piece be published?
Where was the English editor?
What does this have to do with Korea?
Is this some kind of epic trolling piece, sneaking past the sensors with the title?
These strange episodes make life back in the states too mundane to return to. (Also the huge numbers of hookers make it easy and cheap to work out my frustrations) |
