Do you plan on going?
I'm working in Canada right now but I still have plenty of contacts in SK. I was talking with one Korean family I know well and they have already invited me to stay with them for the games.
The deciding factor for me is if the NHL allows its players to participate again. |

I was a volunteer at the Incheon Asian Games, and I would like to be a volunteer at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The venue location for the Winter Olympics is quite a nice place. |

Should be a shitshow of bribery and scandals.
The 88 Olympics that Koreans are so proud of are widely regarded as the worst in history. |

Ahem... Montreal.
Honorable mention goes to Munich, but that wasn't self-made. Moscow, and LA '84 because only half the countries participated. Athens possibly thrown in the for chaos. Mexico city for kicking out those Black Fist guys.
As for winters, Sochi.
Note: every Olympics has their share of scandals. |

The 2018 Olympics will go down as the most scandalous in the history of the games. |

When it comes to hockey, Canada gets what Canada wants. Canadians expect gold in Olympic hockey and will demand that the best guns go. The NHL will be reluctant to piss off the fans who will want to see the best athletes play. |

I would be very surprised if the NHL allows its players to go this time. They almost did not allow them to go to Sochi. The US owners are steadfast against it and that is all that matters. Remember, it is a Canadian game but the NHL is run out of New York. |

Are you Gyopo by any chance? I think it will be an excellent opportunity for bilingual Koreans. |

I think one of the biggest issues is usage rights. The NHL wants to be able to use Olympic footage in advertising if their players are involved. But the IOC/FIH didn't let them in the last agreement (which covered 3 Olympics I believe). That's right, the NHL can't show that 2010 Crosby goal in any form.
Other issues include NHL participation in the World Championships, and an NHL run World Cup. |

The NHL doesn't care about Canadians at all. They know Canadians will watch hockey no matter what. It's like how American presidential candidates don't bother campaigning in states they know they will win. It goes all the way down to calls on the ice. If an American team, especially a Southern American team, is playing a Canadian team that American team will get the majority of calls. It's no coincidence that when hockey was failing in those experimental markets about 10 years ago we suddenly got a streak of Southern Cup winners (Tampa, Carolina, Anaheim). The Carolina win was the most obvious of them all, though if you ask Flame fans they'll tell you stories about the Lightning. The Ducks did seem to actually earn theirs, though. Of course then you have Boston who had their Cup handed to them in 2011, but that's another story. It's hard to take the NHL seriously sometimes.
Anyway, with 2018 in Korea and the only two candidates right now for 2022 being in Asia as well, I don't see the NHL agreeing to allow their players to compete. They didn't even want to do it in Sochi, but their hand was forced by Ovie and other Russians saying they'd go no matter what the owners said. Taveres breaking his leg last time is only icing on that cake.
In any event, this isn't the Cold War anymore where Russia can send its 'amateur' team of professionals while everyone else sends 16 year olds. They still have the KHL which has good players, but it's hardly the Red Army days. Plus it's been proven that this generation of Russians just can't perform internationally. Canada would still have just as strong a chance of winning without NHL players. But any one of 6-7 countries can take gold any year. In a one game knock out tournament anything can, and often does, happen. |

No I am not a gyopo. I just thought it would be a good idea to volunteer. |

Give me a break, there is no conspiracy. It's just the nature of sports, bad calls happen. Vancouver lost because Luongo just lost his confidence. Edmonton lost because Rolson went down. And I'm a Flames fan and was at that very game 6 when Gelinas non-goal was scored. |

I disagree. The NHL doesn't want their players in the Olympics because of money. They don't make anything from it. The problem is that if they don't let the players go the fans and the media will turn on the NHL and the owners in a very bad way. The media won't let up until they agree to let them go.
All the talk by the NHL owners about not letting them go is just talk and posturing. It won't amount to shit come the Olympics. |

It's kind of a cop out that half of the events will be held in Seoul.
Besides the figure skating judge and *beep* Cat Dolls or whoever showing up, what was wrong with Sochi? I thought they pulled it off quite well. Are you sour about the Olympic rings debacle?
How's the highway and rail construction going? |
