They asked me today, and I was like 'hmmmmm that's not in my contract' and went into my warm office.
Now they wont let me use the AC and I'm cold and they've changed the dates of my camp.
I've already booked my hols! |

| Sure, every year. I've never been explicitly asked to do so, but of course I'm not going to sit inside while every man and nearly every woman at the school is outside shoveling the lot in which I park every day. Maybe it's just a side effect of having grown up somewhere snowy, but I also think shoveling snow together now and then is a nice experience. I wouldn't want to do it every day, but a few times a year is perfect. |

Just like Caesar, if the boss picks up a shovel, I would be willing.
If arrogant 5 foot 2 ajosshi wonjang goes back upstairs to his warm office, so do I. |

Last winter, we had a big dump and the office staff were all out there with shovels, mainly the men. I had to go to school to drop off some forms and went in early. As I came out of the office, I instantly had the urge to grab a shovel and help them. I guess it was the way I was raised.
But then I suddenly remembered where I was, and so quickly decided, 'fuck it', and just smiled, waved and walked back to my office. At the time I remember doing a quick scan to look for any professors that were helping shovel snow. It was just the staff. So I took that as my lead. |

| Strange teachers here don't do that. The janitor or the maintenance man does the shovelling. That's why they are there and paid. No disrespect to them. |

When considering doing things that are not in the contract, the teacher needs to ask himself 'am I one among many or am I being asked to perform extra contractual chores out of disrespect'. If everybody else is doing it, it's a bad statement about yourself in many cases to refuse.

One could avoid this problem quite easily--volunteer before you're asked and that way not one can "disrespect you."
I guess there are no former Boy Scouts on this forum--do a good deed a day. |

1. If you are cold, why would you want to use the AC?
2. Maybe if you are real nice they will turn the heat on full blast in summer.
3. "I've already booked my hols! " Keep this perversion to yourself. |

| I always volunteer to shovel the snow at my school. It's good exercise. |
