Not sure I understand the saying London has terrible food. Maybe British food is not great, but that city is so big and international you can find almost any type of food, and the supermarkets are excellent.

England - London - Rude people, crazy expensive... The most unattractive wealthy people I have ever seen. Terrible food, crap weather, boring museums. That being said, I have meet so many wonderful British people overseas that I would like to visit another area in the UK maybe it will be different.

I was never talked to rudely in Europe until I went to London.

The trains in Britain used to be pretty decent until they were privatized.

I've heard that it's in your face friendliness

Home of the original Pilsners.

here's a few of my observations. i'll focus on SE asia since that's where most people will likely travel to:

china: in general, the rudest people i've ever met. for some of the major cities it seems like there is little in the way of rules, for example people in beijing who turn their cars into uber-style taxis whenever they want. hate flying with chinese people more than any other nationality, by a large margin.

korea: the land of perpetual children. the overwhelming majority of men and women are children inside the bodies of adults. great food, shit booze, shit architecture (which is fascinating because koreans have built all of the top 10 tallest buildings in the world, which are general very stunning to look at), beautiful women, low cost of living. the most convenient country i've ever experienced by a very large margin.

japan: clean, fairly conservative, polite to a degree where it's eery, wickedly expensive, a shocking lack of english ability for one of the world's busiest and well established global business hubs.

cambodia: generally a dirty mess of life, especially phnom pehn, but i enjoy it. the most men i've ever seen laying around doing nothing.

phillippines: manila is truly a shit show but i also enjoy it. while i've experienced things in manila over the years that would make most people never return, i've found it quite entertaining. other cities in the phils are pretty cool too.

thailand: great food, great beaches, annoying tourists

laos: slow. boring. even the capital city is a snoozefest, although i made friends with some friends of the laotian president so they took me in style to places only a laotian would know which was actually fun. wish i had experience vang vieng during it's hay day.

myanmar: lovely people, incredibly safe, developing so it's interesting to see the changes that are taking place and an interesting blend of colonial and burmese architecture. one of my favourite countries.

vietnam: bustling. parts of some cities like hanoi remind me of a mini-korea.

malaysia: the worst public transportation ever. all buses, taxis, trains and planes are hopeless. home to one of the most incompetant airlines in the world (airasia). i've been there many times and generally dislike it each time.

indonesia: only been to bali but it was a nightmare full of aussie tourists. beaches in bali sucked unless you were a surfer. no clean pristine beautiful beaches to relax on.

singapore: too clean. lack of any heritage. small. full of entitled white bankers. almost no locals live within the city proper because it's insanely expensive so it's hard to do anything a local would actually do there.

hong kong: awesome. simply a fantastic place to eat, explore and have fun in. i enjoy it every time i go, although the hotels are a joke they are so small. (if you need a recommendation for a huge nice place for the price of a normal tiny hong kong hotel, pm me)

south africa: incredible diversity, great wildlife, fantastic food, cheap. during the summer however it's hotter than hades and the midday sun is truly brutal and you have to drive everywhere. also, almost everyone gets mugged there at one point or another.

colombia: weather changes drastically from one city to the next. this is a much bigger country that most realize. bland food. like REALLY bland. bring your own hot sauce. super nice people who are really chilled and laid back. colombian coffee really sucks. they export all their good beans.

estonia/latvia/lithuania: small countries but the baltics are beautiful. beautiful architecture, beautiful people and unless it's winter, beautiful weather. all the baltic countries are relatively small so it's easy to shoot through them.

italy: somewhat similar to koreans. hard to meet people as most go out in small familiar groups as do koreans. things are closed a lot and it's not a very convenient place. people dress to impress all day, every day, especially in milan.

america: although people hate on him, kimchininja pretty much hit this nail on the head. america is a haven for the lazy, entitled and obese. only cities worth anything on a global scale are nyc and to a degree, san francisco.

mexico: fantastic food, great architecture. huge and there's always a chance you will end up beheaded by the mexican drug cartels.

canada: it's... canada. slow and boring in general and much too cold.

It's difficult to know how to judge Malaysia. Islam together with strict capitalism has turned the country into a piece of cardboard to enjoy when visiting. The two have however allowed Malaysia to have twice the per capita income of neighboring Thailand. 'The roads become larger and the landscape changes when crossing the border from Thailand to Malaysia' a paraphrase from The Lonely Planet.

I never felt unusually entitled while growing up in America. I started working jobs as soon as I was legally capable of doing so. As far as lazy, the money in the USA didn't come from people doing nothing. All the oil that was necessary for the advancement of the West was speculated and pulled up by America from the Middle East. And the steel...........was originally...........What country shall I put here?

Of the 27 countries I've visited so far, I can say that Korea is without doubt the dullest.

Absolutely correct, although the cost of living is on the rise..

I dunno. I was only there a couple of days but enjoyed looking round the former governors residence and the colourful architecture.

Also generally as nationalistic, racist, arrogant and aggressive as Koreans.

The locals tend to make it dull and awful, although I would describe it more as miserable than dull.

France: good food and drink, nice buildings, cool people. French women are beauty too. Not so much their looks but their general way of being.

Spain: bitch hot in summer, fantastic architecture, loud and talkative people, little bit racist.

Italy: gorgeous scenery, pretty men, strong coffee, overrated food, crime ridden, racist.

Ireland: lush green country, great stout, friendly people, shit weather, bland food. Some chips on shoulders concerning the English.

Netherlands:Tall people, bikes, cheese, marijuana, good English speakers.

Singapore: I'm a regular visitor because I have family there. Fantastic food, shopping, humidity, deeply conservative, expensive, nanny state, ruthlessly efficient, worker bees. Slightly soulless and boring.

Malaysia: Beautiful natural landscape, great beaches, nice if conservative people, drive on the left which is a bonus for me. Food is not bad but lacks variety.

Thailand: maybe my favourite country so far. Incredible food, cheap transport, lovely positive people, beautiful nature and beaches, interesting expats and travellers. However, often dangerous, corrupt, incompetent, and plenty of scammers. Some really horrible perverts.

Philippines: grinding poverty, dangerous, scammers, worst food in Asia. Plus side: warm and friendly people, amazing beaches, and cheap to stay.

China (only Beijing): crowded, dirty, polluted, bad food, some really smelly people, almost zero English, even louder than Koreans. Great Wall was awesome.

Korea: deeply conservative, ethnocentric, xenophobic, depressing, poor manners, horrible men, pretty if slightly vapid women, uber consumerist, some great food but a lot of terrible slop, some very nice people but extremely restricted by their culture - there's nothing wrong with being happy! Too much greed and not enough common courtesy.

UK: one of the best places to live if you are in the 10% that can afford it. World leaders in science and education, respectful polite people, pubs, beautiful countryside.
Cons: a lifetime of taxation, shit weather, terrible food culture, wanton violence, thuggish drinking culture, obesity, poverty, drug abuse, crime and poor social mobility.

Netherlands is nice. I laughed at your description of bikes, marijuana and cheese. aha! Yeah, they do speak English really well and don't have the hang ups the French do about speaking English to visitors. Overall, I like Amsterdam.

But, I had an incident with a couple of drunk British losers getting in my face at an ATM one night which really shook me up and pissed me off. I was just taking my money out and waiting for my receipt when one guy got up in my face and said, "Just say No! Just say No!" I just walked away, thankfully I'd already taken out my money. I didn't know if they were going to try and grab my cash and rob me.

Later, I was told by a barman that many of those British guys stay until they run out of money. So they scam and hand out flyers and rob and steal just to stay in Amsterdam.

The drunk British walking around behaved quite badly from what I witnessed. They shouldn't allow them to travel if they're like that. So many of them act like idiots when they are in groups and drunk like that.

Thailand: Yeah, it can be great for food, beaches, etc., but it is dangerous. Especially in the tourist areas. Lots of scams, too.

Unfortunately the food is very bad in the Philippines. Nice beaches and friendly people when you get out into the provinces. Manila is scary. i don't like being there at all.

Hawaii: Incredible beaches, tourist traps, big mountains, spectacular scenery, obese people, stringent ID checking for alcohol. I am quite clearly a few years over 21, thus I couldn't believe it when asked for ID to buy beer.

Bali: Gorgeous sunsets, cheap food and beer, lots of obnoxious wife-beater clad drunk Aussies. Tourist driven and a little tacky in parts.

Santorini, Greece: Hot, hot, hot. Incredible views, nice locals, beaches, lots of feta cheese in salads. Fun fact: Greek yoghurt is known in Greece simply as 'yoghurt'.

I woke up a little early, so I had time to read through this thread and I've come to the conclusion that you can't ever take anyone's opinion of another country too seriously. You have to go experience the country yourself to know what it's like.

It's amazing how even in this thread alone, you have some people stating that people in certain countries are kind and caring, while others claim that the same people are rude and have no manners.

Some commenters stating how some countries are clean, while others claim the same country is filthy.

Some stating how expenses and cost of living in some countries are expensive, while others stating the same countries are inexpensive.

In conclusion, countries are like pieces of art- everyone seems to have a different interpretation and explanation.

Well, it's really difficult to get much out of a week as a tourist anyway. I have two hypothetical travelers. Traveler One visits Korea and stays in Itaewon, then goes to Thailand and stays on Sukhumvit near Siam Square. Traveler Two visits Korea and stays in Gangnam, then goes on to Thailand and stays on Khaosan Road. Traveler One comes back saying Korea is a filthy mess of alcoholism, while Thailand is quite clean and relaxed by comparison. Traveler Two comes back saying that Korea was modern, clean, and everything was new, while Thailand was a filthy mess of alcoholism. You have to spend months or years in a place to really get a handle on it.
