Korea was interesting and I learned a lot but I became concerned
as the job market was getting saturated, I needed a change and
Mandarin Chinese is more useful than Korean language.

Having a passport, native English accent and degree no longer
guarantees you a job in Korea (at least not right away).

Can I still get a job in china pretty much right away? I'm Canadian,
32 (age will be at least a mild disadvantage), have a few years
Teaching experience in Korea, a degree and am almost done
120 hour tesol.

Thanks in advance

You should have no problem whatsoever getting a teaching job - the only question is how well it will pay. Salaries are on the rise though, and I was able to find a job at a high school that paid the equivalent of the 2.2 that most Korean schools pay (including apartment). And once I got that job and proved myself, I was offered a higher paying job in another city.

By the way, I taught for 3 years in Korea and am older than you by more than ten years, with only a BA and no Tesol, so I don't think age will be a factor as long as you're presentable as far as looking and dressing the part. The Chinese are like the Koreans in that way.

Not sure if you're asking me or the OP, but for me it was Ningbo, a very nice second-tier city less than a two hour train ride from Shanghai due south. The next job I was offered was in Shanghai, which is a pretty cool city by the way.

A huge country hence the ease of getting a job. Air pollution is pretty bad though so definitely something to consider when choosing where to work.

Getting a job in China is very, very easy, even university jobs. Age isn't an issue in China yet. I worked at a school that had a Romanian and a Bosnian on the staff. The Romanian and I were both in our mid to late 30s with shaved heads. This was at a school paying 12000 RMB per month, so I think schools in China are finding it hard to find enough native English speakers.

unless you are planning on getting to expert level in chinese and using it in your career as a serious hiring point (aka, a highly coveted expat job, not teaching), i'm not really sure how "useful" a language will be to you. i don't know if it would warrant changing jobs over a language until you had said expert level handle of said language.

Sure $700 US a month, but you get a free room.
