|
|
OK. So I teach these "club activity" days in my Middle school, One Saturday a month, where I take 20 kids off to do an activity. Being the resident whitey, I got put in teaching "English Culture" club...basically exposing them more to things that are part of Western Culture...as vague as that is!
Any suggestions where to take these boys. I am in Seoul, and wondering if anyone knows of any Cultural Centers or Museums, or such things that run any programs as such.
Thanks

Taking them to McDonalds.
Take them drinking in Hongdae.
Take them to lunch at an expensive hotel. |

That was sarcasm, but take them to places where they can see many Americans. Maybe you could even arange a tour with the USO to go on base. |

With my American Culture class, if I had one, they'd be watching a lot of movies and listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of sitcoms. LOL Probably give them a bad view of America on second thought.
Could you take them to a ball game or something? |

A friend recently took her club class to an English language newspaper, and said it went very well. Maybe the USO is doing something for kids- or one of the embassies? Celebrate the holidays of whatever country you'll focus on. |

Just wanted to bring this one back up in case anyone had any fresh ideas...
Checked out alot of the mentioned ideas already...Unfortunate timing of being on a Saturday already puts all embassies and consulates as a no-go...also, USO said "no thanx" and most English newspapers are closed Saturdays. Anyone with some new ideas?
Any help would be appreciated. |

Contact a few of the consulates and embassies anyway- sometimes they have festivals and things on the weekend. |

My s.o. has told me before that when she was a tyke Camp Hialeah had occasional open houses where they let Koreans in and had various events. I doubt any facility does that now, but it made a big impression on her and at least anecdotally, seems to have created some goodwill.
Of course, that was back in the day when Western products/movies/teevee shows were not readily available in Korea and "the West" itself conjured up more mysterious/glamorous thoughts. |

Would the Canada Day gig at the UN Compound be out of the question? There's moderate drinking there, but a good meal and probably the single largest concentration of foreigners I was ever amongst. |
