(Reuters) - Mario Cuomo, the three-time governor of New York and a leading voice of the Democratic Party's liberal wing who turned down several invitations to seek the U.S. presidency, died on Thursday at his home in Manhattan. He was 82.
His death came on the day his eldest son, Andrew Cuomo, delivered inaugural addresses in Manhattan and Buffalo, New York, after being sworn in for his own second term as governor.

Famously, an ethnic liberal with working-class roots and broad appeal. As such, something of a last hurrah for New Deal politics, I suppose.
It goes without saying that he was a good orator. I hesitate to say "great", because me memories of actually hearing him give speeches are kinda vague. And anyway I'm not someone who gets overly excited about great speech-making.
The conventional wisdom is that he would have stomped to victory in 1992, though as it turned out, the Democrats did just fine without him.
