I bought an adapter that allows me to connect the drive to the tablet, but it says it needs a power source..
Is there such an adapter that would allow me to connect an external power source to the drive while it is also connected to the tablet? |

Powered USB hub is what you need, if I understand your post correctly. |

does the drive have a seperate AC adapter that it needs or just a usb cable?
if it's just a usb cable it will draw power from the usb protocol and should work fine in your tablet with no other power source. |

It is just a USB connection.. and when I connect it, the tablet recognizes the drive but says it can't read it because the drive needs a power source. |

your tablet's usb port most likely cannot push out the power necessary to power your hard drive. tablets and phones can run thumb drives using OTG without a problem however if you need to transfer data to and from it easily. |
