You will notice that many universities pay an illegally low rate of OT.
When I interviewed, I asked how they came up with the rate. The interview suddenly stopped and I never go the job.
A guy I know had the right idea. He did all his OT at the rate listed and then sued the uni after he left for unpaid wages. he won.

What is the legal rate then? My uni pays 26,000 won per hour, which is low imho. I refuse OT.

Take your contract to the labor board and they will tell you because it depends on various things.

And your rate doesnt include prep.

I worked at a uni that would deduct paid overtime hours from your pay if there was a holiday in that month. Some months with a holiday like Chuseok in it would mean you were working overtime for nothing because they would deduct 3 days salary from your overtime pay.

I always refused overtime after that happened.

And yes overtime rates are a joke. I can't believe the Ministry of Education lets schools get away with that.

Most schools would fire a teacher for refusing overtime. Unless they had a PHD.

If they deducted money for OT then they were stealing it.

If you have two years at a uni, you can legally refuse OT. If less than 2 years you would probably be fired for it.

I suggest you do the OT and only when you leave then go to the labor board and demand payment.

You would be surprised how many unis have been sued by foreign teachers in the last couple of years. I know at least 5 in Seoul alone.
