And that on-line masters in linguistics seemed like such a great investment at the time... |

1.7 is basically what Chinese universities are paying. with or without an MA.
Difference is you could save more there, and also earn more with privates. |

They want a highly qualified candidate and their pay is only 1.7...?? You'll take home less than 1.5 after deductions including bills. Who can they find that will take that job? |

Someone will take it. It's the perfect job for some guy with a BA and an online masters in linguistics. He can then deem himself as Professor. |

There is no such thing as a new low for Korean universities.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention. One can always count on the esl community to help out whenever there is a problem. |

Actually, let's coin the term.
universites = academic parasites - in the guise of universities
Unfortunately, universites are a growing concern in Korea.
First we had unigwon.
Now - universite
The beat goes on. |

I don't get the online masters comment. It's 2015, as long as you aren't getting an online degree from like Devry or Phoenix then what's the difference? Just because a degree wasn't earned the traditional way doesn't make it any less credible.
Anyways, highly qualified and 1.5 after deductions just doesn't match. If someone is taking that, then I wonder if they didn't fake their credentials. If a hagwon paid that and someone took that job, then they are just freaking stupid. |

Tell them to eff off and don't apply. Is anyone out there stupid enough to apply? But, I have seen this and another ad accepting Bachelor's. |

But it is working at Seoul Women's University.
Can you imagine all the ladies you will be around every day??
My guess but perhaps that is the incentive for working there. |

Assistant professors at SWU make a little over 60 million a year. This job ad isn't for assistant professors, it's for instructors who don't even need to have MAs, never mind do any research. The comparable job done by a Korean would pay about this much, maybe less, but those jobs may or may not exist in the summer. |
